THE CAUSE AND CURE OF ERROR

Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matthew 22:29

For all our education today, we never had more ignorance and error. The root of it is revealed in this word from our Lord: we do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. For Scripture we substitute our own explanations, and for the power of God we substitute our own experience. God has said something to us in the Scriptures, His written Word, and He has done something for us in His Son, the Living Word; but we refuse both and live in error.

Like the generation of Noah’s day, this age lives eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, and knows not, and will not know until judgment breaks. But God has provided a cure for ignorance. Again and again He says, “I would not have you ignorant” (Rom. 11:25; I Cor. 10:1; 12:1; II Cor. 1:8; I Thess. 4:13; II Pt. 3:8).

The cause of error is plain: ignorance of the Scriptures and of the power of God. The cure is equally plain: knowledge of the Scriptures and of the power of God. The first leads to the second: as we know the Scriptures we may know the power of God. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Rev. Franklin Graham couldn’t disagree more with President Barack Obama’s declaration of Friday’s Supreme Court ruling as being a “victory for America,” contending the commander-in-chief will be judged for leading the nation’s moral defeat.

Friday’s landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) to legalize same-sex ‘marriage’ on a national scale spurred Billy Graham’s son to reflect on the president’s tireless pursuit to make homosexual behavior mainstream in America, asserting that he will be held responsible for leading the country on its sinful course.

“God will judge him and us as a nation if we don’t repent,” the younger Graham posted on his Facebook page.

Change is indeed upon us …

Graham, the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), then agreed with a proclamation Obama made at a White House Gay Pride event shortly before the ruling.

“’There has been an incredible shift in attitudes across the country,’” Graham quoted Obama, noting that he was categorically right, before clarifying that the shift was nothing to celebrate. “But it is definitely not a shift for the good of America.”

The North Carolina-based Christian leader explained that the changes taking place in America are indicative of its falling away from God, which will invoke its demise as a nation.

“The shift in attitudes he refers to is the moral decline we are seeing manifest daily around us,” Graham wrote, referring to Americans’ growing proclivity to embrace a Leftist immoral agenda — rather than stand by God’s moral code.

He noted that Americans are now not only tolerating behaviors declared as sin in the Bible — they are celebrating them, while encouraging those who have led the revolt against biblical morality to keep up the “good” fight for “equality.”

“Accepting wrong as right — accepting sin as something to be proud of — yes, that’s definitely a shift,” Graham stressed.

The world-renowned American evangelist then repeated Obama’s earlier declaration of thanks to the LGBT community for transforming the moral fabric of the U.S.

“A lot of what we’ve accomplished over these last six and a half years has been because of you,” Obama told homosexual activists who have been successfully lobbying the White House to enforce their agenda nationwide.

Billy Graham’s son went on to remark that the president’s gratitude and attribution given to the sexual libertine movement is anything but a shocker.

“Should we be surprised that he thanked the LGBT community for all that they had helped him accomplish during his time as president?” he rhetorically asked.

While championing his administration’s ongoing effort to forward the LGBT agenda, Obama touted the fact he raised the number of states that legalized same-sex marriage from two when he was inaugurated as president in 2009 to 37 just before Friday’s  SCOTUS decision to legalize it nationwide. Graham concluded that this accomplishment the president boasted about will ultimately result in disaster for all Americans in one shape or form.

“The President is leading this nation on a sinful course, and God will judge him and us as a nation if we don’t repent,” the leader of BGEA warned.

Championing liberty … or rationalizing sin?

SCOTUS Justice Anthony M. Kennedy declared the reasoning behind the 5-to-4 decision, claiming that a right to homosexual marriage is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

“No longer may this liberty be denied,” Kennedy wrote, representing the majority’s ruling. “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.”

Agreeing with Kennedy, Obama argued that the decision was nothing less than a monumental win for a new “civil rights movement.”

“[The decision is a] victory for America,” Obama announced. “When all Americans are treated as equal, we are all more free.”

Ignoring the writing on the wall next door

Back in 2005, neighboring Canada started federally mandating same-sex marriage — one year after Massachusetts became the first state in the U.S. to legalize the controversial union in 2004. Warning about the changes that would take place north of the border beginning in 2005, Graham predicted that the freedom of speech, religion and press would decline on a grand scale, alerting America that the same would be experienced if it took the same path.

Recently, the global evangelist updated America about the federally enforced persecution Canadians now face for holding to their family values rooted in the Bible concerning “gay” marriage.

“[In Canada] if you say or write anything questioning same-sex marriage, you could face discipline, termination of employment or prosecution by the government!” Graham recently expressed on his Facebook page before the SCOTUS ruling, according to the Christian Post. “We need to realize that if our Supreme Court makes same-sex marriage the law in the United States, we will be in the same boat.”

The outspoken evangelical leader then warned that America will soon embark into a new era of diminishing liberties that should be protected by the Constitution, particularly when it comes to religious expression concerning same-sex marriage and family values.

“Will the next step be to ban us from speaking God’s truth from His Word about this issue?” Graham asked.

This issue in America is painting Christians in a corner.  Homosexuality seems to leveled against conservative evangelicals.  The Presbyterian Church USA, The Episcopal Church, and Evangelical Lutherans not only accept homosexuality, but put homosexual pastors in front of their churches.  At President Obama’s inauguration, there was an openly gay Episcopal bishop, Gene Robinson.  Gene recently divorced his gay partner and husband.  People do not understand what TOLERANCE means.  As Christians, we should tolerate and love homosexuals, but we do NOT tolerate ideas and sinful lifestyles that are clearly opposed to the will of God.  In other words we tolerate people but not ideas.  The LGBT agenda, however, is the group that is intolerant.

A pastor in Canada was ordered to never preach from Romans 1 again.  He was fined $10,000 for speaking against homosexuality, and causing pain and suffering.  That is right around the corner in the United States, and is already happening.  The lesbian mayor of Houston ordered subpoenas for the sermons of five pastors.  This was overturned in court but lets one know where we are headed.  This same mindset is likewise entrenched in Europe as well.

More people overall are becoming pagan.  The good news is that liberal churches are dying and evangelical churches are growing.  Liberal churches desire to deemphasize sin and bring the world into the church.  They make strides towards universalism.  Rob Bell believes in gay marriage.  Rob Bell was seen as a solid evangelical a decade ago and is now a theological liberal.

The Bible is clear that homosexuals will not inherit the Kingdom Of God.  Several verses are listed below.

What’s the big deal?

  • Homosexuality is against the created order.
  • God’s moral character is immutable.
  • The New Testament forbids homosexual acts.
  • Jesus affirmed traditional marriage as a sacred symbol of His marriage to the church upon His return.

People argue that the laws against homosexuality are no different than what kind of fish one can eat.  There are different kinds of OT laws- 1)civil, 2)ceremonial and 3)moral.  Homosexuality is a moral law.  It cannot be compared to a verse from Leviticus that says you cannot eat shrimp.  God’s moral laws do not change but civil laws do change.

Jesus compares the marriage of a man and a woman, to His marriage with the church.  Any other relationship is blasphemy.

Marriage has always been defined throughout history as a relationship between a man and a woman.

Today’s diversion is equality.  Gay marriage has nothing to do with equality.  The only thing this entire issue is about is to redefine what marriage is.  Homosexuals already have the same rights as anyone else.  He does not want equal rights…. he wants rights that no one ever had before.  This is not about equality at all.  They tried to adopt the language of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s and apply the language to themselves.  We are not talking about equality, we are talking about redefining marriage.  Not all discrimination is bad!  We do not allow an adult to marry a small child.  We do not allow polygamy.  Blind people are not given drivers licenses.  Discrimination is making a distinction.  What they are saying is that there is no distinction between God’s plan for marriage and gay marriage.  There is an obvious distinction- procreation, families and children.

The Hate Crime Laws of 2009 have made LGBT and others a specially protected group of people.  

Two years ago, a Christian photographer  in New Mexico was sued for thousands of dollars, putting him out of business, because he refused to take pictures at a lesbian wedding.  This is a precedent for anyone with a business.  The same thing is happening over wedding cakes for these events.  They want to force Christians to approve of these relationships and celebrate their “weddings.”  This is where we are headed.  Even some Christians approve of this apostasy.  In Idaho, Christian pastors were nearly forced to marry gay couples.  The pastors were sued, but narrowly won this case.  In California it is law that one can use the male or female restrooms from day to day, depending how you feel on that particular day.

135)ho anomos- lawless one, Antichrist/ It literally means without the law or outside of the law.  Against the law.

136)epiphaneia- appearing, Christ’s first coming/ The advent wreath and candles of Christmas are associated with the epiphany.  An epiphany  announces the coming of Christ.  It can also mean a sudden revelation of understanding that one receives.

137)soter hemon theos- God our Savior/ This is a simple linear translation.  Soter means salvation or Savior.  Theos means God (theology is the study of God).

138)Kurios Sabaoth- Lord of the Sabaoth/ Lord of the Sabbath.

139)phosphoros- Christ the morning star, light bearer/ Can you see the word phosphorous here?  Phosphorous is light that glows in the dark, certainly reminding one of Christ the morning light and light bearer.

140)gnosis- knowledge/ This is not necessarily a complimentary term in all instances.  The Biblical Gnostics were a cult who did not believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ.  Their heresy is refuted in the book of Colossians.

141)parakletos- advocate, along side of/ This term generally refers to the Holy Spirit.  When one is saved, the Holy Spirit takes up residence inside the believer.

142)ekklesia- church/ Ecclesiastic pertains to the church.  Ecclesia is the English term for the church.

143)hades- sheol/ The underworld.  The term is not as graphic as the word hell.  It refers to the people whose lives are over, and they are awaiting judgment.

144)diabolos- Satan, slanderer, adversary/ We receive the word diabolic from this Greek transliteration.  Diabolic means wicked, evil, sinister, slanderer or adversary.

145)Niger- black/ Africa hosts the nation of Nigeria and the Niger river.  This nation is the home of black (Negro) people.

146)nike- means of success, victory/ Did the athletic shoe company pick the correct name?

147)horion- boundary-line, border, coast/ Our word horizon (the end of sight where earth meets the sky) is derived from this Greek word.

148)pathos- passion, inordinate affection/ The English word pathetic likewise has a negative connotation.  Pathology is the study of disease.

149)paradoxos- contrary to expectation, extraordinary, strange/ The Greek meaning of this word is identical to the English counterpart paradox.

I have always used notes in my preaching. After hearing some who glory in not using them, who wander all over creation, I decided long ago that a good outline would prevent such meandering. Jonathan Edwards read a sermon that will never be forgotten for its impact. An old Scottish lady who had greatly enjoyed a sermon was reminded that the preacher had read it. She replied that she wouldn’t have cared if he had whistled it!

What does the current global financial crisis mean to you and your faith?  What is God saying to His church in this unique hour about this crisis?  Could God be saying?  …That He Meant it when He said that “the love of money is the root of all evil.?”  [I Timothy 6:10].  Unbridled greed is what has caused our economic crisis.  Could God be saying?  That He Alone is Capable of Ruling Over Mankind?  [Psalm 47:7].  Man was never intended to rule over other men.  He was commanded to rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the animals.  Only after the fall was Adam commanded to rule over his wife but she would not like it.  The Bible says that man cannot rule over man.  Could God Be Saying?  That He is not impressed with our human governments?  [Daniel 2:44].  Could God Be Saying?  To stop being comfortable on this earth and instead to long for our heavenly home?  [II Peter 3:13].  Could God Be Saying in This Economic Crisis?  That we should promote His Kingdom as the ultimate solution to our community?  [Matthew 6:33].  To talk about God’s Kingdom is the solution.  Could God Be Saying?  That it is Time for the Church to Awaken from their Slumber and Live Righteously?  [I Corinthians 15:34].  Could God Be Saying?  That His Return is at the Door?  [Luke 21:28].

The Bible tells us that there would be tremendous deception in the last days.  Question?  Could our current global situation be the ultimate proof that God’s Word is right?  It is time to Sober Up.  The only way that we can hope to stand in the coming days of adversity and avoid deception is to live a transformed life through a renewed life through a renewed mind empowered entirely by the Holy Spirit.  Corporations and conglomerates control the way we think and perceive everything.  They want your money, support and devotion from you.  There is propaganda no matter where you turn.

A mortician can make a dead man look better than he ever did when he was alive. So churches like Sardis may appear very much alive when they are dead in the sight of the Lord. There are experts who are very clever at this business of making church corpses appear very healthy so that they have an image for robust vitality in their own sight, among other churches, and up at headquarters – but God knows the difference.

This is probably more true today than when Vance wrote this.  The emerging church which emphasizes marketing and methodology over sola scriptura is a perfect example.  Many churches give lip service to the Bible, yet there is a lack of submission to the Word, and a watered down approach to salvation, often omitting the foundation of repentance without which on cannot be saved.  Blessings, Pastor Steve

The message of John the Baptist was “Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2). The Kingdom was coming then in the Person of the Saviour; it was a spiritual Kingdom, the reign of God in the hearts of men. The Kingdom is coming soon; it will be a visible Kingdom when the King returns and once again our message should be “Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Christ’s message to the church for this hour is “Repent.” But who dares to call the average Sunday-morning congregation to repentance? Said Joseph Parker: “The man whose message is ‘Repent’ sets himself against his age and will be battered mercilessly by the age whose moral tone he challenges. There is but one end for such a man…off with his head! You had better not preach repentance until you have pledged your head to heaven.”

Repentance was preached by the prophets, apostles and Jesus Christ Himself (Luke 13:3,5).  It was the first thing to come to Jesus’ lips in His public ministry after he endured the temptation in the wilderness!  Read Matthew 4:17.  It was the only doctrine that John the Baptist preached as he prepared the way for Christ.  It is impossible to be saved without repenting!  When one truly receives Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior, by default they have repented.  Many in the church shun this doctrine, which tells me there are many unsaved church members who are starched, pressed and ironed but not washed in the blood with extreme sorrow over their sins.   All Because Of Him, Pastor Steve  <><
