RESURRECTION!  Apologetics

Apologetics is the branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines.

A field of Christian theology which aims to present a rational basis for the Christian faith.

Why do you believe what you believe.

The Shroud falls within the field of apologetics.

The resurrection is the centerpiece of the Christian faith.  “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”  I Corinthians 15:14

“If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile.”  I Corinthians 15:17

The resurrection is a settled historic fact:

  • The Shroud is not necessary for belief in the resurrection.
  • Not blind faith.
  • It is a matter of faith based on fact.
  • What are the proof points other than the Shroud?

The apostles referred to the resurrection as a factual event.  I Corinthians 15:3-6  There are about six post resurrection appearances.  The Jews never questioned the empty tomb!  They alleged the disciples stole the body.  How?  Pilate put soldiers to guard the tomb.  For what purpose?  All the apostles except John died as martyrs.  These apostles were all eye witnesses to these events.

Why Jerusalem?

  • Apostles were from Galilee.
  • Why didn’t they go home?
  • The Temple.
  • The Empty Tomb!
  • All the Romans or Jews needed to do was…
  • Produce the dead body of Jesus!
  • Resorted to persecution in AD 37.

Evidence of Transformation

  • Only 7 weeks after the resurrection, Peter with boldness stands in the Temple Court and challenges the very authorities who called for Christ’s crucifixion.
  • Not possible without complete assurance of the resurrection.  Acts 4:9-11

Martyrdom of the Apostles  –  All they had to do was deny the resurrection!

Are there non-biblical historical records that validate what the Scriptures claim?   There are over twenty non-Christian sources between 30 and 130 AD.  They all refer to Jesus as a historical figure.  Twelve mentioned his death by crucifixion.  Ten refer to His resurrection!

With or without the shroud, the resurrection is a historic fact.  The shroud can give us further insight.

Is the Shroud Proof?

  • No…not scientifically
  • The possibility is staggering
  • It could be the most important artifact on the planet!

The image was rediscovered in Edessa, Turkey in the sixth century, described as the true likeness of Christ, not made with human hands.  The icon images all changed from this point on, imitating the shroud.  There are coins from this time with over 180 points of congruence with the shroud.

Small Mississippi Town Fights Back After Mayor Forced to Remove Christian Flag

Hundreds of residents in a small Mississippi town took part in a demonstration on February 4 to fight back after the town’s mayor was forced to remove a Christian flag flying over a local park.

According to WREG-TV, Mayor Walter Williams of Rienzi, Mississippi, was forced to remove the Christian flag flying over the town’s Veterans Memorial Park after the Freedom From Religion Foundation threatened the town with a $500,000 lawsuit.

Since the town has just several hundred residents, Williams said his hands were tied….

The predominantly Christian town was not happy with the situation, so they decided to organize a demonstration where they would rehoist the Christian flag.

“There just comes a point in time when you’ve got to be politically incorrect and take a stand,” event organizer Kevin Nelms told WREG.

“We’re not gonna let other people, or a foundation, or anybody else up in Wisconsin tell us that we can’t fly our flag!”  he added.  “You’re gonna take one down, we’re gonna put a hundred back up.”  So that’s what the residents did.  -Chris Enloe, theblaze.com

Hungary/Romania 2017 Mission Trip ~ Part 6

Pastors Conference In Satu Mare, Bethel Baptist Church

On the morning of February 6, 2017, we departed for our pastor’s conference at Satu Mare, fifteen miles from the Ukrainian border.  It was held at Bethel Baptist Church, the flagship evangelistic church in Satu Mare.  I preached at this church on September 15, 2005 and was blessed with a profession of faith during the service (refer to the category for Hungary/Romania 2005).  Mehi, I was pleased to see, was still the pastor at Bethel Baptist Church twelve and one half years later.  He looked aged and weathered since I last saw him.  His twin daughters translated for us on our previous trip, and Mehi’s trademark is the twenty eight children he has adopted!  Perhaps this has matured him as well as the pastorate!

Our pastor’s conference commenced after we arrived and settled in for an hour or so.  Nine Romanian pastors came the first day, and twenty Romanian pastors came the second day, in some cases bringing their wives and/or families.  When I say they are Romanian pastors, I use that term representing the main people group, because there were those present who had backgrounds from Russia, Belarus, the Ukraine, Hungary, etc., etc.  Intermarriage among the Slavic and Eastern European Countries is not uncommon.

Bobby Herrell was assisted by Aaron Gowen, and they did the bulk of the teaching in the conference, as once again Elijah Morar did a great job translating English to Romanian.  Especially noteworthy was the great chemistry between Bobby and Elijah, both teaching with unction from the Holy Spirit and enthusiasm.  The curriculum of the conference was the Global Effect Ministry.  This was great discipleship training and well received by all of the pastors from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.  Two questions especially challenged the students:  1)What am I asking them to do?  2)What do I want them to know?

From the North American standpoint, Cornerstone Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, led this mission trip.  Their senior pastor is Bobby Herrell and their discipleship pastor is Aaron Gowen.  They do a very unique work and I would ask that you pray for their ministry.  They represent a thriving church in Texas, and a brief word about their overseas mission ventures: They currently go to Romania twice a year (every six months), and they work in India twice a year as well.  That means their team is on mission every three months!  What a great model for the Great Commission – Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8.

We later departed for Budapest in order to make our flight early in the morning.  There was a lot of light snow and sleet throughout our trip.  I was concerned about the possibility of “black ice,” but the Lord watched over us.  We rested well that night, preparing for our thirty hour journey home.  The mission trip could not have gone better, and we attribute that to the Lord’s blessings and to the prayers of the saints.  We traveled home tired and spiritually fulfilled.

Postscript-

When we get involved in the Lord’s work, additional opportunities always open up.  We are living in a day of international networking and advanced technology.  When I got home from this mission trip, I met Attila Kulcsar at a meeting with pastors.  Attila is the pastor of Open Bible Hungarian Church in Venice, Florida.  He speaks three languages fluently- Hungarian, Romanian and English.  He has friends in Hungary and in Budapest.  As mentioned, our lead pastor during this mission venture was Bobby Herrell.  I previously referenced that Bobby is looking for a couple of native Hungarians to help establish a foothold in Budapest for a church plant.  It seems to me, that Attila could be of great assistance in this endeavor.  Hence I passed this information on to lead pastor Bobby Herrell and to Partners In Missions International (PIMI) president Elijah Morar.  Please pray for the Lord to bless the efforts of these men to plant a church in Budapest if it His will!

Heretic Rick Warren says active homosexuals are going to Heaven if they “accept Jesus Christ”

 

Rick Warren’s theology would suggest that an active murderer, adulterer, fornicator, sorcerer or homosexual will go to heaven as long as they have “accepted Christ.”  Rick Warren omits the new birth and our new heart.  He avoids the doctrine of repentance like the bubonic plague.  Without repentance, one cannot be saved – Luke 13:3,5 – see this verse below.  His theology is simply a referendum on Biblical illiteracy.

Have you ever wondered just how many churches are sending their parishioners to hell since they emulate Rick Warren’s theology?  I mean the Bible is no longer adhered to, studied or believed, and he is considered by many to be “America’s pastor.”  I am truly amazed at the Biblical illiteracy and apathy within the church.  There is the claim that bloggers like myself do not get the facts and run rampant with erroneous conclusions.  This blog site is filled with Warren’s own quotations and theology, and a great deal of the material on him is on You Tube and you can listen for yourself.  All it really takes in order to understand Warren’s apostasy is to be saved yourself, and be a noble Berean, utilizing careful exegesis and study of the scriptures.  But then again, even a baby Christian should understand that an active and unrepentant sodomite is not headed for the gates of heaven.  The annihilation of Sodom and Gomorrah is a barometer of the fate of those who actively engage in this deplorable and wicked lifestyle.

Apostasy – Present And Accounted For

I have spent a lot of time over the years, taking trips to other nations and continents where the Gospel is better received.  Yes, I know we are to “be instant in and out of season,” but nonetheless it is truly exhilarating to observe people respond favorably to the Word of God.  My heart goes out to missionaries who spend a lifetime toiling away in a pagan environment and fail to see even one convert.  Our church is hosting a revival the week after next.  Let me contrast what a real revival is compared to what we call a revival.  A real revival is when the saints of God are convicted by the Word of God.  When this happens, the saints fall in line with God’s will for their lives and obey Him.  The lost become saved!  THAT is God’s idea of a windswept and heart touching revival.  The book of Acts is one big revival.  The modern definition however is different – It is when the local church hosts a guest speaker for a period of time, and he expounds upon the Word of God to the congregation and friends.  These use to be very effective, prior to our nation becoming Gospel hardened.  Now, the church gravitates towards other less convicting pursuits such as music concerts, block parties, trunk or treat, Easter egg hunts and the like.  I attempted to advertise our revival on a contemporary Christian radio station’s website, and it has been “pending” for two weeks.  Funny, when I requested promotions for contemporary musicians we just hosted, they went right through.  Why is this?  Well, the radio station, I will hide their identity and just call them “W Christian Lite,” promotes the feel good aspects of the Gospel and not the whole counsel of God.  I appreciate all kinds of Christian music, but note the absence of key doctrines from many of the contemporary musicians:  1)Some are ashamed of the mere name of Jesus.  We sometimes wonder who they are singing about when the only reference to the Lord is an impersonal pronoun.  2)Lacking also is conviction over sin and the need for repentance, without which one cannot become saved.  This is often totally absent.  3)The reality of hell is rarely mentioned.  4)The need to be born again (John 3:3) and receive a new heart is omitted.  …..and others.  The question remains:  “Is a partial “grace only Gospel,” really the Gospel.  My answer is:  “No way Jose.”  On the bright side, the one faithful Christian radio station in our area, WSEB, will promote the revival.  I will not have to even listen to check and see if they share the news of our revival.  How do I know this?  Because I know who the station manager is, and the preachers they feature, and the great Christian aura about their station in general.  Many of our churches have false doctrine, watered down doctrine, and no longer even focus on the Bible in their teaching and preaching.  The churches that are still truly faithful (and we praise the Lord for them), are often sparsely attended, with a great majority of their membership being seniors.  We have arrived at the generation who knows not the Lord.  When prayer and Bible reading were excised from the schools in the early 1960’s, we set the stage for our nation to turn away from the Lord.  We have sown the wind, and are reaping the whirlwind.  God is not mocked and we will reap what we have sown.

The Bible forecasts NOT a revival but a great falling away (apostasy) before the coming of the Lord.
