Remembering Barbara Bush…

Sorry folks, I do not have the warm fuzzies when I ponder upon the Bush family, legacy and Christian faith.  The only words I heard about Barbara Bush in the spiritual realm were that “she had a strong belief in the afterlife.”  I have never heard anyone in the extended Bush household refer to THE Author of salvation, Jesus Christ.  Read James 2:19 New King James Version (NKJV):
“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!”

The eulogy for this First Lady was dotted with words like iconic, public servant, matriarch and patriotic.  Conspicuously absent was any reference to a Christian woman.  In my opinion, the highest praise that can be lauded on any woman is the following:  Proverbs 31:30 English Standard Version (ESV)
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

Barbara Bush was given the familiar accolades that we have grown accustomed to, after her passing, but the fact of the matter is that “good people never go to heaven.”  Why is this?  Because we are all sinners:  Romans 3:23 King James Version (KJV)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…”  Romans 3:10 New King James Version (NKJV)
“As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one…”

Here is the key to salvation:  Hebrews 9:22 King James Version (KJV)
“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission (of sins).”

Prescott Bush, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush, are all globalists who seek the New World Order (NWO), and the so called Two State Solution, whereas Israel would forfeit the little land she has.  Christians would never do such a thing because we believe Genesis 12:3-

Genesis 12:3 New King James Version (NKJV)

“I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Amazingly, the crude and sometimes bombastic Donald Trump seems to understand the need to support Israel better than the “refined” Bush family.  Trump’s support of Israel may prolong the longevity of the United States of America!  This gives real meaning to the old adage:  “We will be surprised by who we do see in heaven and by who we do not see in heaven.”  Amen and amen.

If you do some research, you will find that Prescott Bush supported the Nazi Party in Germany, prior to the United States entering World War II, and George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush were members of the Skull and Bones Society at Yale University.  George H.W. Bush’s nickname was “Magog.”  Enough said…

We Christians should never judge another, as far as where one spends eternity.  But given the lack of evidence of understanding that salvation is “by grace through faith,” and the lack of even the mere mention of the name of Jesus Christ, does not give us a good feeling about where one will spend eternity.  Patriotism and love of country will not enable one to go to heaven.  One must be born from above and place their faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 King James Version (KJV)
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Salvation Comes Solely through the blood of Christ, Do Not Leave Earth Without It!

Despised for All of This
April 1, 2018
Read: Isaiah 53:3–12
Bible in a Year: Judges 13–15; Luke 6:27–49

He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.—Isaiah 53:12
Susannah Cibber gained fame in the eighteenth century for her talent as a singer. However, she was equally well known for her scandalous marital problems. That’s why when Handel’s Messiah was first performed in Dublin in April 1742, many in the audience did not approve of her role as a featured soloist.
During that inaugural performance, Cibber sang of the Messiah: “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3 kjv). Those words so moved Rev. Patrick Delany that he jumped to his feet and said, “Woman, for this be all thy sins forgiven thee!”
The connection between Susannah Cibber and the theme of Handel’s Messiah is evident. The “man of sorrows”—Jesus the Messiah—was “despised and rejected” because of sin. The prophet Isaiah said, “My righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities” (v. 11).
The connection between Messiah and us is no less apparent. Whether we stand with the judgmental audience members, with Susannah Cibber, or somewhere in between, we all need to repent and receive God’s forgiveness. Jesus, by His life, death, and resurrection, restored our relationship with God our Father.
For this—for all Jesus did—be all our sins forgiven. —Tim Gustafson
Father in heaven, we all stand in need of Your forgiveness. We stand too in awe of Your Son Jesus, who was despised and rejected for our sins. Thank You for coming to us in Jesus 2,000 years ago so that we might know You now.
Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Revelation 19:6 kjv

The Via Dolorosa ~ Holy Week

The Via Dolorosa
Our Daily Bread

The Via Dolorosa
March 30, 2018

Read: Hebrews 10:1–10
Bible in a Year: Judges 9–10; Luke 5:17–39

We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.—Hebrews 10:10
During Holy Week, we remember the final days before Jesus’s crucifixion. The road Jesus traveled to the cross through the streets of Jerusalem is known today as the Via Dolorosa, the way of sorrows.
But the writer of Hebrews viewed the path Jesus took as more than just a path of sorrows. The way of suffering that Jesus willingly walked to Golgotha made a “new and living way” into the presence of God for us (Hebrews 10:20).
For centuries the Jewish people had sought to come into God’s presence through animal sacrifices and by seeking to keep the law. But the law was “only a shadow of the good things that are coming,” for “it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (vv. 1, 4).
Jesus’s journey down the Via Dolorosa led to His death and resurrection. Because of His sacrifice, we can be made holy when we trust in Him for the forgiveness of our sins. Even though we aren’t able to keep the law perfectly, we can draw near to God without fear, fully confident that we are welcomed and loved (vv. 10, 22).
Christ’s way of sorrow opened for us a new and living way to God. —Amy Peterson
Jesus, thank You for walking the way of sorrow and making a way for us to be reconciled to God.

Christ’s sacrifice was what God desired and what our sin required.

INSIGHT: In Romans 3:9-23 Paul describes how we are all sinners. Because of our sins we deserve God’s wrath (1:18). But God showed us how much He loved us by giving His Son to be the “sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood” (3:25). We are all “justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” (v. 24). Even though we still sin, we are justified, reconciled, and sanctified. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, we can live holy lives. K. T. Sim

Abortion ~ The Facts

Passion and politics must never determine our position on abortion.  Nothing matters but the facts.  Just the facts.

Fact 1:  The issue of life goes to our creation.  “God…breathed the breath of life into his nostrils; and the man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7b).

Fact 2:  The issue of life goes to the heart of our faith.  “I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance”  (John 10:10b).

Fact 3:  The issue of life goes to our existence and purpose.  “I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born.  I appointed you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).                                          “This is what the Lord, your Redeemer who formed you from the womb says” (Isaiah 44:24a).

Fact 4:  Abortion is a deadly wound in the soul of America.

  • Approximately four thousand babies are aborted every day.

  • More than sixty million abortions have been performed since 1973.

  • In 2003 alone, more children died from abortion than Americans died in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf Wars combined.

  • Only 1 percent of abortions are from victims of rape or incest.

Fact 5:  The consequences are unquestionable.

  • Ninety percent of pregnant women given a Down syndrome diagnosis terminate their pregnancy.

  • The 10 percent who do not state their baby to be the most precious gift of their life.

Fact 6:  Posttraumatic stress disorder manifests in serious symptoms:

  • Eating disorders

  • Relationship problems

  • Guilt

  • Depression

  • Flashbacks of the abortion procedure

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Sexual dysfunction

  • Alcohol and drug abuse

Fact 7:  The fetus is a child!

  • The heartbeat can be heard at six weeks.

  • The head is recognizable at ten weeks.

  • The sex is determinable at sixteen weeks.

  • One hundred percent of the time it becomes a baby!

Fact 8:  One-and-a-half to two pound babies have been delivered, nurtured, and survived, growing into mature, fully functional adults.

Fact 9:  The child’s ability does not equal the child’s worth.  Many of the greatest people in history were born with great physical impairment.  Regardless of any physical or mental limitation, each baby is a precious gift of God, made in His image.

Fact 10:  God has a special love for babies.  He sent His Son, wrapped in swaddling clothes, born in a manger to save the world.  The angels sang.  The stars shone.  The shepherds rejoiced.  The wise men came.  The kings knelt.  God sent His Son in the likeness of every baby boy and girl that has ever come into the human family.

Psalm 139:13-15 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
For it was You who created my inward parts;[a]
You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You
because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful,
and I know this very well.
My bones were not hidden from You
when I was made in secret,
when I was formed in the depths of the earth.

Psalm 147:4  He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them.

He who knows the names of every star knows the name of every baby – before the baby is born.

Fellow Christians-  A great way to witness in regards to the pro life/abortion debate, is to engage in the “comments” section of internet articles regarding this theme.  An easy way to do this, is to “cut and paste” the aforementioned article to the “comments” section!  It is easy to do, and gives the “pro choice” folks a plethora of information to think about.  In Christ, Pastor Steve  <><

Quotable Quotation ~ Southern Baptist Evangelist Bailey Smith

Nearly two decades ago, I heard renown Southern Baptist evangelist Bailey Smith preach at the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in Orlando, Florida.  Never one to mince words or whitewash and smooth over sin, he stated the following about the infamous womanizing former President William Jefferson (Bill) Clinton:

“Bill Clinton claimed that what he did with that woman was inappropriate.  It is inappropriate if I stir my coffee with a steak knife.  What he did was nothing short of adultery.  The penalty for the adulterer is hell unless there is repentance.  As we observe him repetitively engage in these acts, it shows that he has not repented from them.  His only sorrow expressed is a worldly sorrow for having been caught.”

Hebrews 13:4 King James Version (KJV)  Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Galatians 5:18-21 King James Version (KJV)
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Jesus ~ Open Windows Guide For Personal Devotions / Spring 2018 / LifeWay

Jesus

Jesus Christ was with God the Father before the world was created.  He became human and lived among humanity as Jesus of Nazareth. He came to show us what God the Father is like.  He lived a sinless life, showing us how to live; and He died upon a cross to pay for our sins.  God raised Him from the dead.

Jesus is the source of eternal life. Jesus wants to be the doorway to new life for you.  In the Bible He was called the “Lamb of God” (John 1:29).  In the Old Testament, sacrifices were made for the sins of the people.  Jesus became the sacrificial lamb offered for your sin.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the father, but by me” (John 14:6).  He is waiting for you now.

  • Admit to God that you are a sinner.  Repent, turning away from your sin.

  • By faith receive Jesus Christ as God’s Son and accept Jesus’ gift of forgiveness from sin.  He took the penalty for your sin by dying on the cross.

  • Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

You may pray a prayer similar to this as you call on God to save you:  “Dear God, I know that You love me.  I confess my sin and need of salvation.  I turn away from my sin and place my faith in Jesus as my Savior and Lord.  In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”

After you have received Jesus Christ into your life, tell a pastor or another Christian about your decision.  Show others your faith in Christ by asking for baptism by immersion in your local church as a public expression of your faith.

And The Devil Smiled…..

Franklin Graham and The Devil Smiled

Oh the truth of it all. As God’s grace remains on this Earth, and we sense His return is close, Satan is continuing to gather strength. The prophecies have been fulfilled, and with nothing left to do we have the opportunity to bring the gospel message to a dead and dying world not through discord, but through love and compassion. Let us not be discouraged.

Franklin Graham

Fox News Todd Starnes makes some great points in this piece he wrote – “The Devil Smiled.” Take a minute to read it and let me know what you think…
Another American high school has been turned into a killing field. And the nation wonders why.
Well, I’m going to answer that question for you. And the answer may leave you a bit unsettled. You see – I believe there is a God — but I also believe there is a Devil. And I see his hand at work here.
We’ve raised a generation to believe that truth is relative – that there is no right or wrong.
And the Devil smiled.
They kicked God out of public schools – banned Bibles and prayer.
And the Devil smiled.
We’ve destroyed the traditional family – broken homes raising broken kids.
And the Devil smiled.
There are no consequences for bad behavior – no personal responsibility.
And the Devil smiled.
Our movies and music and games glorify violence and gore. Marriage vows poisoned by pornography.
And the Devil smiled.
What happened in Parkland, Florida is about wickedness – a war with the forces of darkness – good versus evil.
There is no doubt our land is wounded, her people suffering. But we have turned our backs on the One who promised to heal our Land.
The politicians and pundits would have you believe this is not about God, it’s not about righteousness. They would have you believe it’s about politics and mental illness and gun control.
And the Devil smiled.

Science Confirms The Bible: Sexual Sin Is Against Your Own Body

Any sexual union outside of holy matrimony is playing with fire, and is toying with a viper.  Thinking upon (lust), watching (pornography), and engaging in (fornication) in sexual sin will sear one’s conscience like a hot iron and warp one’s soul.  Blessings, Pastor Steve

Science Confirms The Bible: Sexual Sin Is Against Your Own Body

By Carol Archebelle/Kingdom Works January 15, 2018

Have you ever wondered why sexual sin is against your own body?

1 Corinthians 6:18 warns of negative physical consequences to sexual sin:  “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”

Now, science confirms exactly how this works.

Whether it be premarital sex, adultery, or viewing pornography, sexual sin alters our brain function and, when indulged in repeatedly, can lead to a seared conscience – an actual brain phenomenon that numbs us to guilt and conviction of our wrongdoing.

Four Times Stronger than Morphine

When porn is viewed, several things happen to the brain involving powerful hormones–two of which are Oxytocin and Vasopressin.

Often called “the love hormone,” oxytocin is released when we hug or kiss a loved one. It regulates social interaction and sexual reproduction, playing a role in empathy, generosity, orgasm, and human bonding.

Vasopressin is a hormone found in most mammals which is also used as a medication… it numbs the pain.
When we watch pornography and “act out,” the sexual sin releases a powerful concoction, creating a perplexing issue for the human body.

Fundamentally, the bonding hormones of Oxytocin and Vasopressin form a rewiring of the brain with the wrong material, that lures the individual deeper into a prison of their own making.

An intoxicating combination of hormones – intended to bring loved ones closer together and promote mental healing – are instead operating out of sinful activity, completely confusing the mind.

Dr. Doug Weiss, Executive Director of Heart to Heart Counseling Center and expert contributor to the Conquer Series, a cinematic DVD series that helps men break free from pornography, elaborates:

“When you have a sexual experience, your brains makes these opiates which are four times stronger than morphine. Boom! It hits your brain, your brain lights up like a Christmas tree. This is the highest chemical reward your brain gets for anything. That’s why a lot of guys get in trouble, even in ministry. They don’t know their brain is defective.”

When the brain has been changed in this way, sexual sin takes a profound toll.

The individual knows that watching porn is a shameful act and one to be kept a secret.

Yet each time they view porn, they find themselves trusting it more, pairing with the porn stars or the activity with a deep mental bond, and feeling healed by the sexual sin… they are trapped in a destructive cycle.

Searing Your Conscience

There is a part of your brain that is responsible for convicting you of wrongdoing.

It’s that little voice inside of you… we call it our conscience.

If you continue to participate in wrong behavior, however, eventually you become desensitized to this convicting presence. That part of your brain simply stops responding.

In effect, your conscience is seared, just as the Bible says in 1 Timothy 4:2:  “Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”

That’s not all. When this area of your brain stays active chronically, you will eventually impair your ability to feel pleasure as well.

Dr. Tim Jennings, expert contributor to the Conquer Series, explains:  “People who damage their pleasure centers in this way will often be disinterested in healthy relationships, will often become apathetic, and they will seek out either more high-risk behaviors or drugs or other types of things to stimulate the pleasure centers so they can feel this.”

If you recognize yourself in this, there is hope.

Hope of Victory over Pornography is Here

From a five-year Pure Desire Ministries national survey of churches entitled Porn Use in the Evangelical Church, we know that 68% of male attendees and 30% of the females view porn on a regular basis.

So one must understand that this journey is a tough one.

While there are many in bondage to pornography, there is an increasing number of men who are finding freedom through the Conquer Series, for example. Host of the series, Dr. Ted Roberts, former Marine Fighter Pilot and pastor, has a 90% success rate in helping men break free from porn and sexual addiction.

Dr. Weiss, Dr. Jennings, and Dr. Roberts are just several of the many experts featured in the Conquer Series DVD set who provide amazing insight, Biblical principles, and practical steps that set men free from sexual sin.

In Memoriam ~ A Tribute To My Dad And The Rock Island Line

This entry is a tribute to this blog author’s earthly father, Howard Charles Thompson.  Howard’s mother died during his birth and his father blamed him for it.  His dad was a worthless drunkard and a womanizer, who abused Howard in his early years.  Howard ended up being raised by his aunt, and she gave him some wonderful guidance.  Howard’s temper and short fuse was one of his besetting sins which was passed down to my brother Fred and myself.  The Bible plainly refers to some sins that are passed down to the third and fourth generation.

Exodus 34:7  King James Version (KJV)
7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Howard was a humble man who thought nothing of himself, and loved his wife and children.  He worked as a railroad fireman and later as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad near Chicago in northern Illinois.  When I was four or five years old he gave me a thrill that I remember as if it were yesterday.  He took me to the roundhouse where the behemoth diesel locomotives were housed and worked on, followed by a ride in one of the switch engines to the turntable, and then we went all around the railroad yard, and I pulled the air horn to boot.  I was hooked on trains from that time onward, and have a layout in my man cave/shed to this day.  He was a good man humanly speaking but he was lost and so were we.  We always said several prayers growing up as we prepared to go to sleep-  we were a good, moral family who were lost in our sins.  Excuses always came up when “church going” was the topic at hand.  “It is my only day to sleep in,”  etc., etc., etc.  You have heard them all.  When I was in college in 1973, my parents moved from Chicago, Illinois to Pompano Beach, Florida – and they were both saved from their sins, as they learned to trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and received Him in their hearts.  They became born again Christians while attending Ocean Drive Lutheran Church in Pompano Beach.  I was amazed at the change in them (II Corinthians 5:17), and how loving all the people were in their new church home.  I received salvation seven years later and that is another story.  I learned that my dad became perfect in the Lord’s sight because of Christ’s sacrifice for us, and that his sins were covered.  Like all of us, he received some “curve balls” in life that would have done him in, if not for the blood of Christ.  Thank you Jesus, for saving my parents, and for this precious truth to come to me as well, several years later.  Thank you for a humble, hard working blue collar father who worked for the Rock Island Line.  Both the Rock Island and my dad are now gone from this fallen planet, but Howard is in “a land that is fairer than day, and by faith we can see it afar.”  Thank you Jesus for the precious hope that You give to the believer.  Thank you that Christians never say goodbye forever.  We can say: “I will see you here, there, or in the air.”   All Because Of Him,  Pastor Steve
