Sound Counsel From The Bible For All People

Amos was a farmer who also took care of sycamore trees.  He came from Tekoa, a small town ten miles southwest of Jerusalem.  Although he was from the Southern Kingdom of Judah, he preached primarily to the backslidden Northern Kingdom of Israel in the city of Bethel.  The text below is the heart and soul of his message.  If Amos were living today, he would be the equivalent to a street preacher.  Street preachers are my heroes because they boldly share the Gospel with people who will never darken the doors of a church.  I have seen the text below on more than one barn roof while motoring down the highway in rural areas:  “Prepare to meet thy God.”  Farmers have more common sense and are much smarter than 99% of our politicians.  Pastor Steve

David Hamblin mentioned that David running from Saul was a type and precursor of the Jews running from the Antichrist.  A very interesting thought.

The Great Tribulation mentioned between Revelation 14-19 is a period of two and one half years.

Seven Trumpet Judgments are referred to in Revelation 8-9.

Sowing in tears refers to the challenges of winning people to Jesus Christ.  Do not forget that in three out of four of the types of ground (thorny, shallow and rocky) in the parable of the sower, the Gospel was not received!  If your idea of sharing your faith revolves around the evidence of a great percentage of converts, you will soon become disappointed.  Soul Winners learn the art of praying and plodding.  It is the Lord’s work.  My favorite scripture tells me that “His word never comes back void and always accomplishes His purposes.”  (Isaiah 55:11)  You and I share and the Lord convicts.  The only time I feel like a failure is when I quench the Holy Spirit and fail to witness.  I ignore the world’s market strategies, and “how to” formulas.  The Bible says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”  (Romans 19:17)  If you love the Lord, people will recognize this, and He will work through you.  The sowing in tears also refers to the many who refuse the Gospel and it breaks our hearts.  i.e. Close family and friends who do not receive it.  The secret to being a successful soul winner is spending time in your prayer closet, being steadfast and immovable, understanding the unique person you are and how God can work through you.  Your lifestyle and walking in the Holy Spirit furthermore adds credence to your witness when you share your faith.  People want to see a sermon as well as hear one.  Plodding is the art of trudging laboriously.  Keep on keeping on, when you see positive results and when you do not.  If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you are witnessing to all those around you and you do not even realize it!  They have you under a microscope!  You cannot be filled with God in this sin sick world without people being touched by it.  Be persistent.  God is looking for faithfulness and the one filled with discernment, who learns how to witness in innumerable situations.  D. L. Moody made it a point to share the Gospel with at least one person everyday.  Scatter seed and leave the increase to the Lord.  Just keep on the firing line.   Pastor Steve

Warren said that theirs would be “the kiss heard round the world”

Laodicean church pastor Rick Warren appeared in Congress with pop icon and outspoken homosexual Elton John on Wednesday to ask for more money for AIDS research. They were clearly having such a good time that they started holding hands as you see in the photo below.

After taking their seats at the witness table, the giddy pair laughed and smiled as they held hands, with Warren saying “Amen” and cautioning Elton John that if they kissed it would be “the kiss heard ‘round the world.” Is Rick Warren trying to tell us something here, is there a “coming out” moment in his future? Hard to say at this point, but sure looks like it.

Such is the state of the professing Christian Church in 2015, weak, powerless, and effeminate. Elton John, the man who has worn more wigs and dresses than Marilyn Monroe, we expect this from. But Rick Warren claims to be a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here was his perfect opportunity to lovingly and graciously tell not only Elton John, but all of Congress that without being born again they will die and go to a Devil’s Hell. But instead, he holds hands with a gay man, and jokes about kissing him. It was a joke, right?

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:14-16 (KJV)

Rick Warren is the perfect representative of the Church of Laodicea in the last days.

So to Elton John, if you are reading this, I lovingly invite you to get saved and believe the gospel that Jesus Christ was crucified, died, buried and rose again on the 3rd day to purchase forgiveness for your sins on the cross at Calvary.

And Rick Warren, if  you are reading this, I extend the very same invitation to you as well.

      These men are here attempting to get financial support for Aids research/treatment. Why must we find fault with them on this occasion? So what if they are holding hands? They are in agreement on their objective, and that is absolutely okay. Neither are making a religious or theological statement other than they stand in agreement to address Aids. Good for them. More Christians should do the same, IMO.

          NO, this is NOT ok! Two men holding hands is “not ok”. Rick Warren says he is a minister of the gospel. Would Jesus do this? Never in a million years. But what Jesus would have done is told Elton John that, unless he got saved, that he would burn in a Devil’s Hell for all eternity. My own brother died of AIDS in 1988, I am not unsympathetic to the plight of people suffering from it. But Rick Warren says he is a minister of the gospel! This is not only an embarrassment to Christianity but in this moment Rick Warren shows you who he truly is. A fraud.

              Geoffrey, I believe you are absolutely wrong on how Jesus would have responded. There is not one verse in the gospels where Jesus ever told any sinner they would burn in a devil’s hell for all eternity if they didn’t repent. He said if they didn’t repent they would perish. Have you never held hands with another man in a show of solidarity for an issue? How about in a prayer circle? Think real hard now before you answer. And if you did don’t tell us that’s different, because it isn’t.

                  Jesus dealt with SIN. That’s WHY He came to earth. He didn’t go before political bodies or rally for social issues. HE CAME HERE TO SHED HIS BLOOD FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SIN!!!!!

                  Of course He was compassionate, but Aids or Leprosy or whatever the illness is is a RESULT OF A FALLEN WORLD. THAT’S why Jesus came to earth. To show us the way back to the Father.

                  You need to repent and trust Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins. You also must believe the words spoken by our Lord. HELL IS REAL AND PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT REPENT AND TRUST JESUS FOR SALVATION WILL BURN IN A FIERY HELL ETERNALLY!!! If Elton John does not repent of his sinful living and agree with God that he is a sinner, in need of a Savior, he will die and burn in hell for all eternity. THAT IS THE TRUTH.

                  Thank you for being daring in your faith John to stand up and be a voice for truth. Far too many Christians are following the herd and listening to false teaching. Most I ask if they have ever met Pastor Rick, no. Have they heard any of his teaching, no. Have they attended his church, even read their statement of beliefs? No. There are great consequences for false accusations and speaking out against a brother or sister in Christ. If we are wrong about another we are speaking against Christ himself as we, true believers, are His body. Stop the hate and start living as Christ lived, loving people into the kingdom. Time is short. If there is hate in your heart, it is time to repent and examine if you are truly saved. As the Bible says, we are known by our fruit. Matthew 5:9 NIV

I don’t know what Bible you have read, but my Bible has many scriptures where Jesus says to repent or they will not see Heaven which means they will go to Hell. Read Luke 13:3,This next one comes from Peter in Acts 238. Acts 17:30 from Paul. In Revelations 2:5. Only the first one came directly from Jesus but keep in mind these were his disciples and they taught what he told them to teach. Also keep in mind the Bible comes from the words of God and if you call them liars, you are calling God a liar and he DOES NOT LIE! There are other instances but I figure those are good enough for someone who does NOT know his Bible and is ignorant of God’s word.By the way God would not have liked two men holding hands nor kissing on the mouth.                       I was born-again in 1983 as a result of the faithful witness of a Christian colleague. At the time I was 30 years old, alcoholic, hooked on prescription tranquilisers and living a very immoral lifestyle.
                      Over a period of years Jesus delivered me from drink, drugs, sex and gave me a brand new life, a loving wife and 3 great kids.
                      I have served him in the church here in Wales and in Christian mission ever since, attending Bible College and Discipleship schools at the beginning of my Christian life. I am currently an associate pastor in a Baptist church and UK leader of an intercessory prayer ministry. I am also a national representative of a Christian organisation working with Christians who have same sex attraction issues – trying to show them a Biblical way of life.
                      I think what I find most offensive about some of these posts is that they are mostly based on a picture. Those posting have no idea what rick warren has said to Elton john publicly or privately but they arrogantly assume they know and castigate him on the basis of their own imaginations. It is also quite evident that many posting get a kick out of being rude to others – (in the Name of Christ. As Jesus said to His wayward disciples – ‘you know not what manner of Spirit you are of’. You counsel people to read the Bible – I would counsel you to read it with the help of the Holy Spirit and ask the Lord to open the eyes of your heart to His truth. Some folk here have seriously unresolved anger issues that need to be brought to the cross.

              Jesus never threatened anyone with hell He only warned them of it. You threaten an enemy but you warn a friend. Everyone is a friend of God some just don’t know it yet. Did Jesus separate himself from sinners or did he embrace them? Did He live for His reputation or did He give it up and make Him self of no repetition for us? Jesus died for all men but we have lived at the expense of men. How can you be a light if you never go into darkness. Jesus loves Elton Jon just as much as you. Jesus was willing to wash the feet of His disciples even when He knew they would all run out on Hiim. He knew before the last supper that even one would betray Him and one deny Him yet He broke the bread and poured the wine and His hand didn’t tremble and His lip did not quiver. And He called them friends. Jesus would of gladly helled Eltons hand and Elton would become a believer. This whole campaign has nothing to do with promoting homosexuality or adultery. It’s about raising money to heal people. when Jesus was returning to Jerusalem with James and Jon and had to pass through Samaria they encountered Samaritans that were insulting and slandering Jesus on the way they. James and Jon asked Jesus if they should call down fire from Heaven to burn them up. Jesus looked at them and said you do not know what spirit you are of. Jesus said I came not to condem or destroy but to save the world. Hope this helps shed some light on the Fathers heart and His love for us.

                  Jesus may have dined and spent time with sinners but he sure didn’t support their sinful nature. That is the reason why Jesus said to the adulterous woman: Go, and sin no more.

                  I understand that we should love our brethren, especially the lost. But righteous love does not equate to supporting sin. Homosexuality is an abomination to God. Warren had an opportunity to lovingly teach the truth of the Gospel but he opted to joke about kissing another man and even held hands with him knowing that such an act would show that he supports homosexuality. As a preacher he is accountable for all of his actions. Telling the truth of the Gospel is what should have been done instead.

          Friend,

          If you had done research you would find out that aids was created in a lab, and the antidote was, also. So, all the finding the cure is false, raising money is true.

          My feelings are that we pray for those that are lost, but we have to realize that there are also agendas that play out, whether financial or spiritual and that there are those that for personal gain and other reasons support these agendas.

          We certainly have known very kind and generous people in different situations that have come up short, and it is the preacher or pastoral care that makes a difference.

          If we were talking about another form of addiction, then we would have mercy, but mercy is under grace until decision is made. Not easy in any case, but a pastor that doesn’t understand the difference between mercy and judgement isn’t really preaching the gospel that sinners get salvation, but to ignore is certainly upon the pastor.

          My prayers are for those that struggle. If they are not struggling perhaps they have made a decision. That is God’s business, but we are given the grace to have discernment about prayer and what our prayers cover, yet the Lord looks at the heart and knows everything in it, we don’t.

      This is why I do not go to churches. The god I love and believe in…. Loves all. And I’m sick of Christians judging others. a sin is a sin!!!! just saying. The only one that can JUDGE is GOD!

          The God of the Bible does not “love all”, He loves those who are in His Son. He allows the unsaved plenty of time and space to get in His Son, but God’s love is past tense…read it for yourself and see – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (KJV). God’s love waits for you 2,000 years ago at Calvary. Now, if you are saved and born again, God loves you very much. If you are unsaved, God’s wrath abides on you.

          Kimberly, if a sin is a sin then why would you stick up for the sin that Rick Warren is committing. That doesn’t make any sense! No one thinks that any other sin is ok like murder, rape, pedophilia, etc. So why is it when it comes to Christians pointing out that homosexuality TOO is a sin, do you get all flustered? The other thing you might consider is the excuse you use to not go to a church anymore is exactly that, an excuse. Jesus NEVER said it was ok to forsake the assembling together because you were offended by your pride, or for any other reason for that matter.

              perhaps you all should read Matthew 7 especially the bit about motes and beams. I’m with Kimberley and believe God loves all, and does not want any to perish however love does not FORCE its own way. ALL have sinned and fallen short. Wise and righteous judgements are only possible if you have all the facts and understanding of the motivation of the parties involved. Elton John may well be very aware of Rick Warren’s theology, it’s still his choice to accept or reject. Rick is not sinning by showing love and helping those who are often orphaned or widowed as a consequence of AIDS. and well said John.

And what’s even more amazing is her dispensational theology restricts her from having the gift of discernment since that went out with the early church, or so they espouse.                   Rick Warren is an apostate preacher – telling the world that God and Allah are one and the same. He is New Age and is an agent of the evil one. His appearance with Elton John and the provocative holding hands and kissing was to shock the world. PREACHERS OF THE GOSPEL ARE SUPPOSED TO PREACH FROM THE BIBLE TO GET PEOPLE SAVED.               Geoffery you sound more hostile then loving. As a Christian you should love everyone, even if they are your enemy. If Elton John died tonight he would end up in hell, because he’s never confessed Christ and turned away from his homosexual ways. But you can love others without sounding so hostile against them. The Bible also uses the word “love” 310 times.

              My suggestion is when you preach the Gospel, or witness. Please do it in a loving manner, instead of sounding so hateful to those who are unsaved.

Highly unlikely that most of these posters have read the Bible in total and possibly forming their opinions from an online or TV preacher like Joel Osteen or go to a Universal Church. Gods words are point blank, if you have not accepted Jesus Christ into your heart as your one and only savior before you take your last breath you are going to Hades/Hell and are going to be greatly disappointed when you discover there is no such thing as Soul Sleep.

I preach on the streets every week, and see tons of queers walking past. The number of times I call them out on their open sin? ZERO. I am not there to be there conscious, I am there to be a WITNESS of the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Let them get saved and the Holy Spirit will straighten them out. I have enough of my own sins to worry about, I am not concerned with the sins of others. What I AM concerned with, however, is that UNSAVED people – like Elton John and possibly Rick Warren – hang over the flames of Hell each and every day because of their lost condition.                       I tend to think that once saved always saved is a western church marketing term. There are so many scriptures where salvation is treated as a life lived with our heart on Jesus and not on sin. I think one can be saved when saying the prayer, but Jesus requires so much more that words. Below I laid out all of the verses I could find on the very narrow road to salvation. Hebrews 3,6 and 10 are some strong passages on it as is Jesus’s words to Peter in Luke 12. In verse 41 Peter asks Jesus if even he(Peter) must stay ready when Jesus returns. Jesus, the guy who invented salvation, makes it clear that even Peter must not stray…lest he too perish.

                      Ummm, nope. Lucifer was never “saved”, just like none of the angels are “saved”. Only humans can be saved because Jesus only died for humans. Why do we say that we are ETERNALLY SECURE? Because that’s what the Bible says we are. Paul says that, at salvation, we not only get saved but we also get “sealed” until the day we meet Jesus. Why would you assume anything written thus far on these posts means I or anyone else believes anything is permissible? What I do believe is this pic of these two well known men expressing agreement is not worthy of vilifying either one. Jesus did not criticize the sinners he met along the way. The ones he singled out for criticism were the conservative Pharisees who thought they were right with God when they weren’t. You know, the ones who made judgmental comments and evaluations of tax collectors, publicans, sinners, prostitutes, etc.

Besides, Christians can sin and still make it to heaven and non-Christians can’t? That’s a mockery you were talking about. Lastly, Jesus in fact said, “no man can pluck them out of my hand” sure. But I’ve heard it said, and agree, that we can jump out by disobedience. Not only that, but we can grieve the Holy Spirit. And if we grieve Him enough, He’ll leave. There’s the sealing you talked about. But we can “unseal” ourselves, don’t be deceived.

          @eddie i think you have misunderstood to a point about eternal security a christian has. when an individual is saved they are adopted into the family of GOD and that can’t be taken away. does that give a christian a license to go out and live like the devil, um no because those the the LORD loveth he chastens. did you know that by jewish law an adopted child can never be disowned by the adopting family but the natural born son can be disowned. my last name is watson and it does not matter what i may do my last name does not change although my family may not recognize me the fact remains i am still a watson just like a christian once adopted can’t be put out of the family. believe me there will be more than a few people in heaven with the smell of smoke on them. salvation does not give a christian the freedom to go out and live any way they want to without consequences and while i am a living example that GOD IS long suffering in his patience with wayward christians that he will withhold his punishment to a point but i can also tell you that there is a point at which GOD will yank your chain and throw someone on their back like a dog on a long chain that thinks it has gotten free but eventually that chain runs out and you realize you have made theone that cared enough to die for you angry and GOD if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness and that applies to both saved and unsaved but even though GOD has forgiven me of my trespasses against HIM when I was out of his will i still suffer the guilt and the consequences of the time i was out of GOD’S will but i did not lose my salvation. look at king david and the grievous sins he committed, david was guilty of adultery,fornication,murder due to the sin he committed with bathsheba resulting in her becoming pregnant and david telling his commanders to put uriah in the heat of battle to make sure he would be killed to cover up the sin he had committed but even after it was all said and done and david asked GOD to restore unto him the joy of his salvation GOD forgave him and put david in a right standing before GOD and even went so far as to say that david was a man after GODS own heart. so don’t believe or so quick to judge someone about their salvation or being able to lose it because none of us know the limits of GOD’S long suffering and mercy with his wayward children because we are mere finite humans trying to understand a infinite GOD.

      I do not usually hold hands with men, but in my job as a chaplain I have occasionally. Rick Warren is not here to witness in public. Witnessing must be led by the spirit or it’s useless. Remember when Paul wanted to go into Mesopotamia(or was it Bythinia?) but the Spirit forbade him? Some posting here think Warren should have started preaching on the spot. Why would anyone assume that to be the right thing to do in this venue? I am not at all related to Rick Warren.

Do your own research and diligently seek the Truth. Witnessing is done everywhere and anywhere if you are indeed a disciple of God. The Holy Spirit is with us whenever we witness about the death of Jesus and Heaven and hell. We don’t have to wait for anything because Jesus commanded us to witness. OK? Paul wanted to go elsewhere to PREACH the gospel but the Holy Spirit said NO…he had to go to the gentiles. Read thy bible PLEASE.

      Did you know that God hated Esau and loved Jacob (Malachi 1:3)? I thought that God loved everybody…Yeshua Himself said that we can know (judge) another person by their fruit, good or bad (Matthew 7:16-20). It is quite obvious that Warren is at best an apostate and possibly a queer and condemned to hell…God says that because there are so “few” true Christians left in America, He won’t be able to spare this country from the nuclear annihilation to come (Matthew 7:13-14 and Jeremiah 25:32-33). Up to half of our population may die in this nuclear holocaust (Revelation 6:8).

      The problem with this simply this: Both people are hugely influential, albeit to two vastly different audiences. The two in question look so happy and comfortable with each other which leads people to see no real difference between them. Clearly we as believers cannot be seen to be so comfortable with those who we are warned about in Scripture.
      To now try shift the focus to this ‘noble cause’ of raising funds for AIDS, does not make it rain got. What fella whip does darkness have with light?
      Furthermore, Rick Warren has a very bad track record when it comes to discerning and teaching the Word – his promotion of chrislam and catholicism are examples.
      People need to make a distinction between ‘judging’ and ‘discerning’, the latter does not contain condemnation but rather caution and avoidance.

          Jesus was always comfortable with sinners though he did not condone sin. He was ridiculed for that very fact by the religious leaders of his day. Jesus never berated or lambasted sinners as you do,however he did sharply rebuke the deeds of those claiming to be God’s chosen people (the Jews and Saducees). Jesus said I came not into the world to CONDEMN the world. John 3:17.There is too much condemnation from the church as evidenced from the remarks made on this page.

              The AIDS “epidemic” has NOT, in fact, spread to heterosexuals the way propaganda told us it would. Those people living a life according to God’s precepts (faithful partners, no drug use) haven’t seen massive numbers. Some innocents have suffered, of course, but only as exceptions. Entire African countries have seen the number of new cases reduced dramatically after aggressively promoting abstinence before marriage and faithfulness afterwards. So sin IS the main factor in most AIDS cases. Logically speaking (and I teach Logic), basing your argument at the fringes only strengthens my argument.

      God is absolutely holy and cannot abide sin. That is why we must come in repentance to His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, Who shed His sinless blood on the cross that we might not perish but have everlasting life.

      I am getting a sense from some of the comments people are posting that they think sin does not separate man from God. That God is loving, that God does not see sin as a problem, and that He receives anyone/everyone whether or not they come to Him through the Lord Jesus Christ.

      That shouldn’t make sense to anyone who has studied the Bible (KJV for me!)and takes it seriously. Even little children know (well, they used to…)that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

      Jesus Himself said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man (or woman) cometh unto the Father but by Me.”

      Elton John or anyone else who lives in daily rejection of his/her need for forgiveness God’s way – John 3:16 – will stand before Almighty God with only his/her own righteousness to commend him/herself.

      Those are the facts.

      I must have missed something. They are working together for an AIDS benefit? What is wrong with that? He made a joke – about kissing… That doesn’t mean he supports Elton’s lifestyle. How do we know he did not pray for him or tell him what he believes about homosexuality. But even if he didn’t say a word to him – that does not make him an apostate nor less godly. Some times you have to show those you want to minister to a softer side – so that their hearts and minds are opened to even listening to what you have to say and accepting your truth is worthy or universally true. We can not condemn everyone not godly and not interact with them – how are we to show them the example that God has created us to be.

              We are actually told to judge by Jesus and Paul. In John 7:24 Jesus says not to judge by mere appearances but to make right judgements. Paul expands on this at the end of 1 Corinthians 2 when he says that those with the spirit can judge all things because we are spiritually minded.
              The spirit is telling me not to judge Rick Warren just because he is an influential pastor, but to use the word to see if what he is saying and doing is true or false. When placed in the refining fire that is the word of God, Warren is found to be a liar who ignores the saving message of the cross of Christ. He preaches clever sounding lies, sprinkling them with christian language and terminology. Everything he says isn’t bad. Satan is too smart for that. He weaves darkness together with light to deceive those who don’t know the word. Eat, drink and breathe the word of God.

      Could you please tell me where in the bible it says people will burn in hell for eternity?
      Does that line up with a loving God? Do you think anyone who is saved could even begin to live happily knowing that family members or friends who did not understand that they needed to repent, but who were kind people… that they were tormenting in pain for ETERNITY?

      No, instead the bible says the fires of hell would be eternal, but the people would be burned and cease to exist. Like tares being thrown into a fire, they burn up, they do not burn for ETERNITY.

      But God himself is an eternally burning fire. And those who do not have the covering of Jesus’ salvation would burn up in his presence.

And that’s what’s really wrong about all this. Elton John is on record as saying that “Jesus Christ would approve of gay marriage” if He was on the Earth today. Rick Warren was given the position he holds to take the gospel to places that others can’t But obviously he refuses to do the Lord’s work, and only seeks to line his own pockets by his association with the rich and famous.

                  yeah I was thinking along the same lines, what people do either confirms/buttresses/builds up others in their sins, or exposes those things as sins -and never to just leave it at that show them the way of freedom and healing and repentance/forgiveness in Christ.

                  What happens often among those who..never think on the scriptures they read? and therefore don’t but barely apply them (like even romans 14-confirming/furthering another in their sins or it even goes down to what another might think for themselves is a sin..) never consider what their reading and applying it to daily life and instead they go and build up another in a life that’s contrary to Christ which is just a horrible thing to do.

                  Just like going out and getting drunk with a worldly person, a person then has built them up in their contrary walk/in their sin by doing that,..to make jokes and make a life of sin seem ok is to build another up in their contrary walk and life apart from Christ..it’s horrible to do that.

The harshest words Jesus ever spoke were to the religious crowd who thought they were a cut above the low life sinners, you know, the ones Jesus ate and drank with, conversed with, laid hands on, and dare I say probably held the hand of a man or two along the way. Let Jn 13:34-35 and Romans 13:1-8 seep deep inside you and let it marinate your spirit with love for everyone. Those verses are not abrogated by all the other verses used to justify judging and hate found on some of these posts. It’s easy to judge others and find fault. It’s much harder to love self serving sinners, which we all are. Bear in mind some folks sins really do go before them and others follow. When we readily find fault and carp about this one being an apostate and another a despicable homosexual rest assured you are putting a target on your back for demonic entities to bring you down. God will indeed an evil spirit on you to teach to keep your mouth shut about others, humble yourself under his hand, and learn that what’s desired in a man is kindness, not criticism. If you continue in your hateful comments you will be brought down.

      This post bothers me. The author not only assumed Rick Warren of not being Christian, but he also claimed that Rick might be gay. To me, Elton John being gay is just as bad as this Christian writer judging and making false assumptions. There is no love being shown by the writer. The only love that’s going on is Warren reaching out to Elton John, even though he is gay. He’s not judging him, he’s not condemning him to hell (like the author did) he’s simply working with him to attain more money for AIDS research. I think the Christian community needs to stop dogging on guys like Rick Warren and condemning people to hell. Like every Christian knows John 3:16, but we immediately skip over verse 17. I think what’s wrong about this post is that a Christian is judging another Christian for reaching out to the world. He’s showing grace and love to the world, not just those who deserve it.

      Oh and btw, if you go up to someone and say, ” I lovingly invite you to get saved and believe the gospel that Jesus Christ was crucified, died, buried and rose again on the 3rd day to purchase forgiveness for your sins on the cross at Calvary.”

      I promise that they won’t listen.

          The writer is not assuming that Rick Warren is gay. What he is saying that, as a preacher of God’s word, Rick Warren has the RESPONSIBILITY and the ACCOUNTABILITY to follow God’s statutes. Rick Warren has a choice not to participate with this event. Events like this are planned beforehand and he would have been informed that Elton John would also be there. It could have been a great moment for Warren to preach about the truth and yet he decided hold hands in solidarity and to joke about kissing.

          2 Corinthians 6:14 says it clearly “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

          Homosexuailty is an ABOMINATION to God. Nothing will change that fact.

In fact, God does not love anyone except His own elect whom He foreknew from before the foundation of the world whose names are written in the Lambs Book of Life.           According to Romans chapter 1, these are the people that God gave over to vile passions, men with men and women with women working that which is unseemly and God says that such shall not inherit eternal life. And when you talk nice to them, you are just encouraging them to walk faster and more surely down the path to eternal hell.

          Jesus does NOT “love homosexuality”, like all sins He hates it. Those references you mention to Homosexuality needs some qualifying. Yes, the men of Sodom did want to rape the two male angels that were in Lot’s house. But it is the standard party line of the Bible denier that God was not against two men screwing, He was only against the rape. That’s a lie promoted by Matthew Pine and Rob Bell. The Bible is against ALL forms of homosexual love no matter how soft and tender it may be. And in Romans 1, there are no references to “temple prostitutes” anywhere in the passage. Paul is simply laying out the case against two men together and two women together, under any circumstances. Just wanted to clear that up for you. Have a great day.

          @Kim Wilde I am a former devout Catholic of over 50 years, now saved by grace. Leaving the church if Rome is very difficult because you are taught your entire life that there is no salvation outside of it and, most of all, you are never allowed to read the Bible without the supervision of a priest. You are specifically told that you will fall into grave error if you read the Bible independently, and also that there is no need for Bible reading because you hear the entire Bible read aloud every few years during the various readings at Mass. Once I read the King James Bible, I realized how very deceived I had been about so much and it also gave me the courage to study the real history of the Roman church which horrified me. There are no circumstances under which I would ever say the rosary, go to confession, etc., again. I had to purge my entire home of statues and idols, now when I think of how I knelt in front of them and prayed to dead people I am appalled. You have to realize that the Catholic church changed the Ten Commandments to omit the prohibition against graven images, that they purposefully forbid their adherents to read the King James, and that they threaten them with damnation for leaving Rome. All the rest of my family is still Catholic, and I am very worried for them, but all I can do is pray and witness. The peace, freedom and wonder I have found, the deep and personal experience of Jesus Christ, the delight of the Bible, all of this, but especially JESUS, His grace, His Truth, are more than I ever expected to find in my life. I used to wonder why born-again friends found so much in the Scriptures, envy how they studied alone and unafraid. Now I know why men died to bring us the Bible in English and each native language. I do not have to imagine what made them feel that way, I feel that every time I open a King James Bible and can read it for myself and hear the voice of the Lord God speaking right to me and tell Him my fears and troubles. No priest, Mary, or saint in between, there is one mediator, Jesus Christ, and I am free.

I agree wholeheartedly with your suggestion that some of these folks who advocate so vociferously for the KJV take the time to read all of it, in whatever version. The message will be the same: They are not in balance with all that’s contained therein. Lots of anger to the point of rage. Among other things that’s an indication of insecurity about their position. I am fairly certain The Lord does not want his children going on a rant about this picture. I actually happened to catch Elton John’s comments at the hearing. He was articulate and made perfect sense. As for Rick Warren, perhaps he has moved away from his more conservative positions but I don’t know for sure. Are these men sinners in need of love and grace? Of course they are. We all are. But we are not their judge. I think some posters believe otherwise. Thanks again for your level-headed responses.

      Are you aware that many years ago when all the world knew of Warren was that he was the pastor of Saddleback Church and had written the Purpose Driven Life that he gave away 90% of the proceeds, lived on the 10%, and did not take a salary from the church? Yeah. He doesn’t need the money from hob-nobbing with celebs, as you suggest. Is it possible he is just interested in using whatever influence he has as a respected Christian leader to join forces with a homosexual activist to help address a disease that is no longer confined to a mostly homosexual lifestyle as a way to give back even more than he already has?           I remember when he did to that with his money. Now he seems filled with pride and vanity. He often brags about how his book is the best selling book of all times besides the Bible( I’ve seen him do that in a news conference without even being asked about it!) and at his TED talk he did not mention sin, repentance and the cross of Christ even once. He was not interested in saving souls from hell, instead he pushed his Jesus-less humanistic agenda. He seems almost offended at the cross of Christ now. He is not offended by unrepentant celebs who are polluting the world with evil day after day.
          So…while he may have started off good, the world and it’s ways exposed his heart. It happens to all of us at times(me included), but when the Lord identifies it, we can either ignore it…or get on our knees, repent and return to the Jesus as found in the eternal word of God. He has holes in his hands and feet because of MY sin, and I am so very thankful for his grace and love. Warren, apparently is more thankful for Elton and Bono’s love.
          Time has exposed him. Fame and friendship with celebrities is more important to him than the cross of Christ, through which I was crucified to the world and the world to me….May he repent and turn to the one who shed his blood for us all.

      I think we’re all forgetting one important and crucial point of the gospel here; that Jesus came for sinners, not the “righteous.” Show me one place in any of the gospels, epistles or prophetic works that say we should not befriend unbelievers and sinners. On the contrary, Jesus surrounded Himself with prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers, women, children, aka, the last people that the religious leaders of the time would be caught dead associating with or considering equals. Now, that is NOT to say that he gave them a free pass to sin, on the contrary, he compelled them to repent and sin no more, but he did actively seek out and love those who would be spit on by the Jews of the day before calling them to repentance. I see nothing wrong with what pastor Warren is doing here, and if you do, then you should probably examine your own heart and ask if you’re being one of the people who Jesus fought against: a pharisee. If pastor Warren has ever said anything to Elton about salvation is the real question, and we can’t really know that for sure, can we? Rick has been very open about his views regarding homosexuality and (while I can’t speak for his private thoughts) are right in line with what the bible teaches.

      Also, not everything is a sign of doomsday. People have been saying exactly what you’re saying since 1st century. Yes, we should be aware, but only the Father knows the day and the hour when Christ will return.

      Ok. Let’s look at salvation another way…you might not be able to “lose” your salvation, but you can forfeit, or give it up. Because in the same way we have free will to choose God, we also have free will to un-choose God (by loving sin more than God). Or does God keep us sealed against our will? I wish that were so, because the only way God can do that is by cutting off the “old man” and last I heard, that is Man’s personal task to “die daily” to self. The Spirit helps, but if we grieve the Spirit, so much for our help. Hope that helps.

          NO, you cannot “lose it”, “forfeit it”, “give it up” or become unsaved. This is IMPOSSIBLE because the Holy Spirit SEALED US IN at the exact moment of salvation, where we are 100% pure and washed, and because of this sealing process mentioned in Ephesians 1 and 4, we REMAIN in that condition till the day we go to see Jesus. What you can lose when you sin after salvation, and we ALL sin after salvation, are your rewards at the Judgement Seat of Christ.               Ok Geoff, so while we’re taking Romans 7 out of the Bible, we need to take Phil. 2:12 out of the Bible as well, which says to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Why would we have to work out our own salvation, if it’s always sealed, and in the bag? I’m with ya buddy, but that eternal salvation jazz has the tendency to generate lazy Christians. Again, YES, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. But we can grieve the Holy Spirit, and He can leave, and then where is our seal then? I’m done. Tunnel vision is a b****.

                  When Paul tells us “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” He is NOT saying you “work to stay saved”. That would be a MASSIVE contradiction of the previous verses where he says we are sealed. No, when Paul says to “work out our salvation”, he means it’s like going to the gym for your body. You work out your walk with the Lord, getting a little better each day. You “work out” your faith to INCREASE it. You “work out” to stay humble at at His feet, you “work out” daily life as a Christian with all the battles that come with it. You cannot save yourself, and you cannot keep yourself saved.

      I certainly have. It was for a different occasion and was a quote from Ezra. Paul made it clear that he did not ever intend for believers not to associate with unbelievers or one would have to go out of the world. So however you apply this verse don’t go further than the context warrants. Besides, it’s not the example Jesus set. He dined and fellowshipped with tax collectors, the rich, prostitutes, demonized folks, and even some religious folks, but evidently not often. They didn’t approve of the company Jesus kept. Hmmm… So tell me, should we follow the example of Jesus or go by that verse you quoted? The Pharisees prided themselves on “not touching the unclean thing” and received the Lord’s most scathing rebukes.

          People must realize the basic truth that what God called sin means a person can repent of that sin too, so people aren’t born gay, not born drunks or meth babies aren’t born to use drugs etc etc either(drunks and meth babies could also say their born that way since science can actually find the harm done to them while in the womb from their parents-yet God still say’s repent=and freedom power and healing is available in Christ), and understand the inward and spiritual problems that show up outwardly in any practice of sin.

          Rather then seeking men ‘of’ the world (find out what that means) to justify sin they could instead heed the word of God and turn from sin seeking with a contrite/broken heart to be made anew in Him and for the Lords deliverance and power to be set free of it and the flesh nature itself…what does it mean to be born again..empowered? what is that vs the verse-having a form of godliness yet denying the power thereof?..what is this power, that sets free, born again in Christ 1st peter, born of the Spirit john 3, born of God john 1…the power to be set free and overcome the world the flesh nature and the devil.
          Praise God He sent His Son to set us sinners free if we’ll heed Him of course rather then seeking the worldly to help us justify the things of the flesh that please us.

It’s already brought such huge schisms in what was once a Christian nation. Now, it would appear to be a Cretan nation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

Yet the number of believers multiplied because they walked in love to the point of death for Jesus and other believers. They did this because they were led by the Spirit without a Bible that most couldn’t have read anyway. BTW: The Council of Jamnia settled on the Old Testament canon in 90AD! So for at least 50 years after Jesus returned to heaven there was no certainty about which books were truly inspired even in the OT, with the exception of the first five books. Imagine living by that as a believer in Jesus!

      Anyway…

      A person doesn’t need to have nor believe the Bible to be right with God. Bear in mind the vast majority of Christians did not have one or access to one for the first 1500 years of the church’s existence. Millions of indigenous groups are just now getting a piece of the Bible in their language, yet they have been believers for hundreds of years. Their numbers have grown in great part because of the love they show others. The spirit blows where he wills. As many as the Father gives to Jesus will come to Him, without fail, and without the need of a KJV Bible or even human agency. Read Rev 14:6 sometime. John said an angel went through heaven declaring the eternal gospel. So this is why I continuously return to the priority of love in our attitudes, words, actions, and prayers. I believe that’s what the Spirit uses to draw people to Jesus. Of course He uses the Bible many times for this as well, but it’s just one among many ways that God draws us to Himself.

True children of the most high can judge because the scriptures state it, We are a righteous people and you are allowed to judge in righteousness between evil and good in all situations. God has given his wisdom to his believers to discern between these two things, so when you say you cant judge, then how do you judge your own household and your children when they err. you sound like you are living on the milk of the word and not the meat. if you continue in the belief of not judging between right and wrong then you are not christian, and only one by name. this is the problem with the Christians and the churches today, over 70% are lost and have gone apostate from the word o God, if this was my condition right now i would begin to cry our for Gods mercy and his forgiveness because you could be the victim of a false conversion. it will bode very bad for you at judgement day and if this is your condition right now I would really consider crying out.

I find it peculiar that if a Harvard law professor says what all discerning born again Christians already know, that is it suppose to have more impact.  He said “I believe we are in the midst of Spiritual warfare.”  (Talk about stating the obvious!)  I would suggest that we can push the envelope much farther:  “We have left the Lord, therefore He has left us and we have been under judgment for well over a decade.”  THAT is why Barack Hussein Obama has been twice elected as our president.”   Blessings, Pastor Steve
