Sharks Goalie Reimer Continues The Sea Change In NHL Pride Debate

Breaking News Updates – March 23, 2023

BY SUZANNE BOWDEY/WASHINGTON STAND MARCH 23, 2023

Turns out, the rainbow-colored sushi wasn’t the biggest buzz at San Jose’s “shark tank” Saturday night. Unfortunately for the NHL, neither was the team’s Pride Night. What was supposed to be a return to the league’s woke normal managed to prove that — at least for some players — there’s no going back.

When the Sharks decided to snap the string of teams who were opting out of rainbow-themed gear for players, Commissioner Gary Bettman had to be secretly rejoicing. The news that San Jose would buck the rebellious trend must have come as a relief to league officials, who’ve had to deal with a fair share of outrage from the LGBT community. With the decisions of the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and Minnesota Wild, the NHL has had more PR messes to clean up than Madison Square Garden’s custodians.

But Bettman’s celebration turned out to be premature, thanks to a gutsy goaltender named James Reimer. The 6’3″ net-minder was every bit the cultural giant Saturday when he declined to wear the Sharks’ Pride gear that night. In a heartfelt statement released by San Jose, Reimer explained:

“Under the umbrella of the NHL’s Hockey Is For Everyone initiative, the San Jose Sharks have chosen to wear jerseys in support of the LGBTQIA+ community tonight. For all 13 years of my career, I have been a Christian — not just in title, but in how I choose to live my life daily. I have a personal faith in Jesus Christ who died on the cross for my sins and, in response, asks me to love everyone and follow him. I have no hate in my heart for anyone, and I have always strived to treat everyone that I encounter with respect and kindness.

“In this specific instance, I am choosing not to endorse something that is counter to my personal convictions which are based in the Bible, the highest authority in my life.

“I strongly believe that every person has value and worth, and the LGBTQIA+ community, like all others, should be welcomed in all aspects of the game of hockey.”

While three teams scrapped their Pride uniforms before this, Reimer was only the second player to take an individual stand in public. The Philadelphia Flyers’ Ivan Provorov was the first, citing his faith as a reason he would sit out a pre-game skate in January. His jerseys sold out forty-eight hours later.

In some ways, Provorov’s decision was the hardest. Being the first to blaze that trail, to reject the cultural mob, exacts a unique price. But in Reimer’s case, the media seems to be taking it very personally that a North American would rebuff the Left’s orthodoxy. Local reporters scorched him for being Canadian, a place where LGBT advocacy is apparently as plentiful as maple syrup. The video player is currently playing an ad.

Ascribing motives to Provorov and other teams that have no basis in fact, SF Gate’s Gabe Lehman claimed, “Other NHL teams have had to cancel similar Pride-themed jersey plans after players refused to wear them. However, those cancellations were partially believed to be caused by Russian players fearing for their safety in their autocratic home nation, where homophobia is official state law.” But, he complained, “Reimer isn’t Russian. He’s from Canada, a country that legalized same-sex marriage years before the United States.”

Provorov was abundantly clear two months ago that his decision was rooted in religion, not Russian repression. As for the other three teams’ players, they have the luxury of anonymity since their head offices did the right thing and stood together — refusing to single any skaters out.

That doesn’t matter to the insatiable Left, who ripped Reimer from every direction. The ever-inclusive You Can Play Project responded that faith is never a good reason to reject the status quo. “Religion and respect are not in conflict with each other,” it insisted, “and we are certainly disappointed when religion is used as a reason not to support our community. Wearing pride jersey, like any celebration jersey worn, is not about the personal feelings of an athlete — rather the communication from the team that a community is welcome in the arena…”

But professional athletes shouldn’t have to wear a polyester sandwich board for a political message they disagree with to accomplish that. Frankly, the NHL is already tripping over itself to pledge allegiance to the rainbow flag, so if anyone feels unwelcome at these games or in this sport, it’s the non-conformists, the Christians, and conservatives.

Would these same activists be willing to drape skaters in a Christian flag against their will? Maybe force them to show up at an altar call after? Of course not, because they are the ones defining what “respect” is. And respect, to them, is nothing less than full acceptance.

Family Research Council’s Joseph Backholm blasted the incredible double standards at work. “It’s unreasonable to say that respect requires a willingness to promote someone else’s beliefs. This is no different than asking players to wear Trump hats on MAGA Night or skate with an AK-47 for Second Amendment Night. The disrespect is in the request — not the decision to decline.”

In a press gaggle Saturday, Reimer tried to expand on his rationale, rereading his statement and inviting the media to ask questions. “I feel like I’ve treated you guys with respect and dignity,” he told the group of reporters. “And that’s kind of how I treat everyone. … But the other side is that I just can’t, you know, publicly or and personally endorse something that goes against, you know, my beliefs. … Again, if I had a gay teammate, I hope I would be the first one to shake his hand when he comes in and treat him like I would any other teammate.”

Reimer went on for a full 17 minutes, reiterating at one point, “This wasn’t an easy decision for me. You know, I’m not scared to stand up for my faith in Christ, but I wrestle with it because I know the initial reaction of putting out a statement like this … can come across offensive or a slap in the face and obviously … that’s not something that I intend. I mean, I’m by no means perfect in any way, but I want to show that I truly do love and care [but] I just can’t publicly and personally endorse it. … My faith in Christ is who I am. … And at the end of the day, you can’t worry too much about what other people think of you.”

One writer asked if Reimer was worried about his decision affecting his livelihood, considering that he’s a free agent at the end of the season. “I think I’d be lying if I said that it didn’t,” he answered truthfully. “I’m sure there are people in management or ownership that … won’t look favorably on this. And I get that, and I understand that and respect everyone’s right to think and believe whatever they want about me. But at the same time, I hope that there’s another handful of people in management and ownership that … respect me for standing up for what I believe in.”

No matter what those managers decide or how this affects James’s career, one thing’s for sure: the impact of his courage on the league, its fans, and other athletes will outlast any trophy or save percentage. For once, the millions of people who’ve sat in the stands and endured this cultural onslaught have a voice — and, thanks to Provorov, another hero.

Once Sodomites achieve there desired “tolerance,” commanding everyone to submit to their perversion is the next step. The Road to Poverty

The Road to Poverty

Posted by Sarah Hopkins

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs’s is the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:3

The road to poverty is one all children of God will travel, sooner or later. For there is no other way there than to travel this road. It is the way…to the kingdom of heaven.  What is this road? And why must the true children of God travel it?

Poverty is not something we like in rich America, or anyplace in the world. For which one of us does not aspire to riches. Some may not care about money, but we all seek riches in their many forms and fashions. Riches may be strength, health, beauty, family heritage, loved ones, self confidence, self righteousness, a code, a creed, a cherished reputation, a talent or skill, one’s accomplishments, material possessions, or a devoted love for one’s self. It is sustenance in some form that we would hope on, place our trust upon, revel in. But what is the road of poverty? That is another story. A sad one, one where you will mourn, suffer loss, become dependent, feel pain.

The road to Christ, a true awareness and faith in Him from the heart is paved with sorrows, lack and need. For to find Him, in truth, or more accurately for Him to find you, there must be this acknowledgement of our utterly destitute state without Him. It’s the beginning of understanding the magnitude of our depravity in view of His holiness. Just a glimpse, for we can never truly come to a full understanding of this truth in the carnal wicked world in which we live. Only in heaven will we see this truth as profoundly as it is.

Blessed are the poor in spirit. Who are they? How did they get there? They are the ones who lack in spirit and know it. They may be the forgotten one, the drunk, the glutton, the homeless person who no one cares about, or that rich widow sitting alone day after day with no friends, no loved ones anymore. It’s that person who suffers need and is desolate. In a word poor. The one who sees how fragile they are, how needy they are, how desperate they are for love, for forgiveness.  These poor souls don’t hope in themselves, or money, or anything or anyone life has to offer, for they have long given up on all of that, they hope in God. For He is their only hope. They are poor! They cannot help themselves. They are blind beggars on the street corner of life, crying  out, to God. God hears them. God sees them and loves them, as they are without money to pay, or works to offer. He sees them in their helpless condition and He loves them and He takes them in His arms, in His care, because they believe on Him. They believe on the Saviour Jesus Christ, with out works to pay for His love and acceptance,  but rather in the freeness of His love for them.

Why do these poverty stricken people find what seems to elude most of the world? Because they need it a little bit more. They are desperate that’s why, a desperate poverty stricken broken heart hungers more, and believes because it’s his only hope, his last hope. They don’t have anyplace else to go. That’s why many people come to Jesus finally, it’s their only hope. Because….they are poor. That is why Jesus said He came to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God to the poor, because the one trusting in riches can’t get there from here, until they find themselves on the road to poverty in whatever form it takes.

Should you find yourself on the road to poverty, and you recognize the Saviour of the world on this road, because that’s where He is, Rejoice! For if you place your hope in Him alone, your destination will be the greatest wealth you could ever possess.

In the end the reality is that every single person will one day experience the road of poverty, either in this life or the next. Because the truth is, without Christ we are all horribly poor, whether we know it or not.

“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:17

If you are suffering as a Christian, thank the Lord for it. Becoming poor in spirit is one of the trademarks of the mature saint. Amen and amen. Pastor Steve <><

Jesus Christ Is Lord

“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11)

Throughout the New Testament, we find there are three names in primary usage for the Son of God: Jesus, Christ, and Lord. The name Jesus, meaning “Jehovah is the Savior,” is His human name, linking Him with humanity whom He came to save. Christ, meaning “anointed,” is His Messianic name, linking Him with the prophecy that He came to fulfill. The New Testament equivalent to the Hebrew word Jehovah is the word “Lord,” linking Him with deity whom He came to represent and reveal, and to whom is due homage.

These three names have a chronological emphasis, for until His crucifixion He was known primarily as “Jesus,” but after His resurrection and ascension He was preeminent as “Christ.” When He returns, it will be as “Lord” to reign. To be sure, there is overlap, for He is simultaneously all three and has been throughout history. But the general pattern is clear.

The three names also indicate His threefold office and work. “Jesus” suggests His career as a prophet, teaching men the truth, while “Christ” suggests His priesthood, atoning for sin, and “Lord” His Kingship, ruling over men. Mankind’s relationship and responsibility to Him follow this same pattern: obedience to Him as prophet, faith in Him as priest, surrender to Him as King.

There is no effort on the part of the Scripture writers to separate these names into different individuals, for on many if not most occasions two or three of the names are combined, showing that these three names reference one and the same person. “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36). Incredible 1,500-year-old Christian mosaic uncovered in Israel ~ November 27, 2017

Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered a stunning 1,500-year-old Christian mosaic that was once the floor of a church or monastery.
Experts found the mosaic during an excavation in the ancient Mediterranean coastal city of Ashdod-Yam, now part of the modern city of Ashdod. The discovery, which was made in August, was announced Thursday by the Israel Antiquities Authority.
An inscription in Greek dedicated to the structure’s builders offered archaeologists a vital clue. The inscription mentions a date on the ancient Georgian calendar, enabling experts to date the building.

“[By the grace of God (or Christ)], this work was done from the foundation under Procopius, our most saintly and most holy bishop, in the month Dios of the 3rd indiction, year 292” it reads. The year 292 corresponds to 539 A.D. “This is the earliest appearance of the use of the Georgian calendar in the Land of Israel, many years before it was used in Georgia itself,” explained Dr. Leah Di Segni of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who deciphered the inscription, in a statement.
Experts from the Israel Antiquities Authority, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Gottingen and Leipzig University in Germany also participated in the project.
Ashdod-Yam was an important city during the Byzantine period. Long hidden under sand dunes, the city is now revealing its secrets. “As far as we know, Ashdod is now home to the largest community of Jews of Georgian origin in the world,” said Dr. Alexander Fantalkin of Tel Aviv University, Dr. Balbina Bäbler of the University of Göttingen, and Sa’ar Ganor of the Israel Antiquities Authority, in the statement. “Testimony to the presence of the actual Georgians in the Land of Israel as far back as the Byzantine period has been found dozens of kilometers from Ashdod – in Jerusalem and its surroundings. But this is the first time that a Georgian church or monastery has been discovered on the Israeli coast.”

The archaeologists note that, according to historical sources, the fifth-century Georgian Prince and Bishop Peter the Iberian lived in Ashdod-Yam.
Archaeologists are now working to raise additional funds to continue their excavation of the site.
The Ashdod-Yam mosaic floor is just the latest fascinating Christian archaeological find in Israel. An ancient Greek inscription, for example, was recently found on a 1,500-year-old mosaic floor near the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. The inscription mentions the Byzantine emperor Justinian, who ruled in the 6th century A.D., and commemorates the building’s founding by a priest called Constantine.
In 2015 a 1,500-year-old church was discovered at a Byzantine-era rest stop between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. In 2014 the remains of another church from the same period were uncovered in southern Israel.
Experts also believe they have found the lost Roman city of Julias, formerly the village of Bethsaida, which was the home of Jesus’ apostles Peter, Andrew and Philip.

2015 Second Orlando Prophecy Summit, Part 55

Paul McGuire    ~    How To Walk Victoriously And Overcome In The Last Days

It is hard to live victoriously in the last days.  People who are not saved walk in spiritual darkness and cannot perceive the things of God.  They cannot discern right from wrong or good from evil.  The main spiritual battle goes back to Adam and Eve- it is whether or not you doubt the Word of God.  That is always the spiritual battle.  Satan twists and bends the Word of God.  Religion is the biggest enemy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Religion encourages “works” in order to earn salvation.  People whose spirits are dead are open to all kinds of spiritual deception.  Communism always kills and destroys yet it is still promoted.  Universities across America always promote communism as the ideal, even though it has never worked!  Charles Darwin’s idea of evolution is scientifically and biologically impossible.  There is no proof of evolution.  People continue to commit to blatant falsehoods because they would have to admit there is a God!  This is called the world system.  The Holy Spirit of God in you testifies that you are a child of God, and Jesus Christ is Lord.  (Romans 8:16)  The hardest people to brainwash are Christians because they know what they believe and why.  Jesus Christ is our Comforter.  Unbelievers are often uncomfortable around Christians because they sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in them.  This situation often results in forms of subtle persecution.  In movies, the psychopath or serial killer is often a Christian.  We are in the world and not of it, so this persecution is going to increase.  Morality is constantly attacked on even the good television comedy sitcoms.  The G 20 meetings have voted that the money you deposit into the bank is no longer legally yours.  Your money is used to bail out the mistakes of the international banking cartels.  This is what happened in Cyprus and Greece.  The world wants us to give up all our rights and accept global government.  The leaders in the United Nation are globalists, and their leaders are members of the Illuminati.  This is true.  The all seeing eye on the dollar bill is a prelude to One World Government.

***************

How do we not have anxiety if we are aware of all these realities?  This is our main point.  How do we walk supernaturally and in victory despite these circumstances?  Jesus said:  “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”  The secret to victory is to be plugged into Jesus Christ.  “Unless you abide in Me and my Word, you can do nothing.”  When you walk with the Lord, “…ask whatever you will, and it will be done for you.”  “Nothing is impossible with God.”  The Holy Spirit of God is who enables you to live the victorious Christian life.  The power of the Holy Spirit can give us victory in the Christian life.  America is in trouble now because the church is in default, and we are living in a spiritual vacuum.  The remnant church is the true believing church.  We need to pray, repent and call upon God.  Satan accuses the church, but the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin when we ask God for forgiveness.  We boldly come to the throne of grace.  Ask God and He will move.  The Spirit of God in Christians enables us to call upon God and be used of God.

“Go Ye.”

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”     Mark 16:15

We construct beautiful buildings for worship, then struggle to get people in.  We have eloquent preachers but often no unsaved are there to hear them!  We seem to have things back to front.  The Lord’s final message before He ascended was “Go ye.”  Use your feet to go into all the world to preach the gospel.  He is saying to the church today, “Go ye into the high street and market; go to the homes and playgrounds; go to your friends and neighbors.  Whatever else you do please go.  I am waiting to make you a blessing if only you will go.”  A conference held some years ago was entitled, “Go Out or Die Out.”  How true.  Is yours a dying assembly?   -David Croudace

Go then and tell them of Jesus, it was for them He was slain

Give them, O give them the Gospel, let not their cry be in vain!  -O. Smith
