Pastor’s Conference of the Southern Baptist Convention in St. Louis
Derwin Gray from Transformation Church in South Carolina.
Pastors must be wrecked by the Gospel before we can equip others with the Gospel. Derwin played for five years with the Indianapolis Colts. Derwin was so lost that he stole a Bible. Timothy was a Hellenistic (Greek) Jew. *The apostle Paul knows nothing of segregated churches.
II Timothy 2:4-5
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he mayplease him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
E How do you equip the church to be evangelistic? The Gospel you preach will equip the converts you make.
Q Question the Gospel that divides evangelism from discipleship. People are saved so God could have a family. Forget the seeker-sensitive movement.
U Unity All ethnic groups are one in Christ. We need to be ethnocentric. Seated right next to me, our son Matthew Thompson said: “Interracial churches are a taste of heaven.” That will preach!
I Inspire a Gospel – Ethnos in your church. Preach the Gospel so people in 2016 can understand it. Do not let tradition destroy your church. People must be equipped to share their work of grace. Tracts have their place, but relationships are the key.
P Teach the people to share their story. Reach millenials by being real. Have no canned presentations. Present the Gospel.
North American Mission Board (NAMB) Luncheon
I neglected attaining tickets to this great event until later, and it appeared we might have to stand, and we may not receive a lunch! But God blessed, as we finagled our way to the front, and we received our lunch while seated, and were given “High Sierra” backpacks as well! The auditorium was jam packed, as this function is growing every year. NAMB had some great speakers and videos that covered their many efforts at disaster relief, spreading the Gospel, etc. This is a tremendous ministry.
