9-11 Revisited

We will forever have the memories from this date etched in our minds, much like the previous generation remembered Pearl Harbor.  The events were confusing and brought a myriad of thoughts to mind all at once.  The American flag flew everywhere, along with the familiar cry of “God bless America.”  Certainly it was a time when Americans joined together in patriotism, and Christians sought the Lord.  Politically speaking, President Bush and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani led in the nations’ cohesiveness at the threshold of the long war against Radical Islamic terrorism.  In the midst of all of the chaos and thoughts, some folks seemed to get the REAL message from the Lord.  I served in a church in the Shenandoah Valley during the time of 9/11/01.  This mountainous region was inhabited by many Mennonite families throughout the valley.  Mennonites are somewhat similar to the Amish in dress, and likewise harbor the same ideals and customs, but not quite to the extreme.  Mennonites drive cars and operate machines.  Here was the four word Mennonite response to 9/11:

America Bless God, Repent!

The Mennonites got it right, and the first time I read their sign I realized it.  If our nation turned back to the Lord, we would not fret over the weather, terrorism, the economy, or anything else.  God blesses and places a hedge around those who submit to Him.  Remember, Islam can only enter a vacuum, and not a God fearing nation.  This brings us back once again to the panacea for all of America’s woes:

2 Chronicles 7:14, New International Version (NIV)

14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Pray Without Ceasing For Revival In America
