The Preincarnate Christ, Part II: Prophecy-

The Old Testament is filled with prophecies. Some have been fulfilled and others will soon be fulfilled. The Old Testament was completed around 400 B.C. There are over 300 prophecies that all point to Jesus Christ. Jesus fulfilled 30 prophecies during His crucifixion alone! No one else in history could ever do this because of the uniqueness of the circumstances. A plethora of books and volumes have been written on these prophecies, yet even they do not cover it all. This succinct writing is only meant to give us an appreciation of this truth so that we can share it with skeptics. The Dead Sea Scrolls are dated 100-150 years B.C. and add tremendous validity and integrity to the Old Testament and leave the honest and open enquirer without excuse as to the truth of the Bible. Here are just a few of the well known prophecies that Jesus has or will fulfill:

1)Micah 5:2 Tells us that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem and that He is eternal and everlasting God.

2)Isaiah 9:6-7 Jesus is Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. He will rule over all of the governing process on earth during His one thousand year rule.

3)Psalm 22 Goes into detail about Jesus’ crucifixion. Jesus said 7 things on the cross before He died. Many of them are prophesied in the Psalms and Old Testament.

4)Revelation 5:5 Tells us that He is the Lion from the tribe of Judah. Jacob (Israel) had 12 sons and the 12 tribes came from them. This scripture tells us what tribe Jesus would come from.

5)Isaiah 53 Also describes the suffering of the Lamb of God on Mount Calvary. This so obviously refers to Jesus that many synagogues refuse to allow it to be read within their premises even though it is in their Bibles. Consider vs. 5-6 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” This passage needs no commentary or clarification and sends shivers down my spine because it was written in 700 B.C.!

6)Genesis 49:8-10 Again refers to Jesus coming from the tribe of Judah. The verses also tell us that there would be royal lineage in this tribe up until Jesus’ birth. The royal line comes through Jesus’ earthly father Joseph.

7)Isaiah 7:14 This refers to the miraculous virgin birth along with Genesis 3:15 and Jeremiah 31:22. The fulfillment is plainly seen in Matthew 1:23, which also expounds on Christ’s Deity (Jesus is called Immanuel meaning God is with us).

8)Numbers 24:17 Tells us that Jesus would come from the lineage of Jacob (Israel).

9)Deuteronomy 18:18 Note how the word Prophet is capitalized. That is because it refers to the Son of God, Jesus Christ. His Words are absolutely perfect.

10)Zechariah 9:9 On Palm Sunday, less than one week prior to the crucifixion, Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem. This scripture forecasts this event hundreds of years in advance.

11)Malachi 4:1-5 Jesus will rule in peace from Jerusalem.

12)Jude 14-15 One of my favorite passages in the Bible. This scripture is actually taken from the non Biblical book of Enoch. Enoch was an early Old Testament patriarch from the pages of Genesis. Incredibly, Enoch forecasts the Lord’s Second Coming with tens of thousands of His saints to execute judgment upon the earth. This is totally amazing and gives us an appreciation of God having the end solved through the beginning. Hence, it is no wonder that in Revelation 13:8 Jesus is called: …”the Lamb slain from the FOUNDATION of the world.”

Yes indeed, prophecy just may be the best apologetic tool available for those who request proof of why we believe the Holy Scriptures are absolutely true.

3)Typology and 4)Theophany to follow in this four part series on the Preincarnate Christ of the Old Testament……

Blessings

    • Thank you for quoting the material. I find the Dead Sea scrolls date Old Testament manuscripts before Christ, further validating the integrity of the Bible and prophecy. You have great material on your site.
