Does Your Church Avoid The “Hot Button” Issues Of Today? Martin Luther Offers Counsel On This Theme

“If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition, every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christianity. Where the battle rages the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battlefield besides is mere flight and disgrace to him if he flinches at that one point.” Martin Luther, the father of the Protestant Reformation

I would suggest that the following portions of truth are what the world and the devil are currently attacking:

Abortion- 50-60 million since Roe vs. Wade. I cringe when I realize that God’s justice and judgment will not sleep forever.

Sodomy- The world has taken charge of this lifestyle and has declared that people are born with this proclivity. It is not PC to believe otherwise. If you oppose it, then you are stereotyped as a hateful and intolerant homophobe. The church is indeed intimidated by this reaction and many fellowships are now accepting this lifestyle. Yes, even into the active ordained ministry! The church is suppose to be GC (God correct) and not PC (politically correct).

Fornication- This sin often flies under the radar. It involves ANY sexual union outside of holy wedlock. It is rampant in our nation, both in and out of the church. The lack of conviction over this sin is mind boggling.

Radical Islam- There is already a fear factor and intimidation over this religion. “Coexisting” has never been part of their agenda. They desire world domination period, and especially disparage and persecute Jews and Christians. Incredibly, pulpits remain largely silent about this ominous specter on the horizon.

Creation/Evolution- If I cannot trust the first foundational eleven chapters of the Bible, why should I trust the rest? There are legion of pastors and leaders who believe in evolution and not a literal six day creation six thousand years ago. By default, they are saying they do not believe in the inerrancy of the Bible. Do you have questions on this doctrine? Go to:

Martin Luther could make such a statement because he became a “one man army” against the pope when the pope ruled! I could guarantee that one could go to many professing Christian Churches in our day and not a word would be preached in reference to the five aforementioned themes.

May you and I live with love and humility; and Lord, strengthen us to preach/teach the whole truth, and especially the “hot button” issues of the day in which we live.

In Christ, Pastor Steve
