Another scripture that further elucidates our aforementioned theme from the previous article is Luke 21:24B: “…and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” The remainder of this chapter in Luke expounds on the apocalyptic judgments soon to come upon the earth. We now see obvious signs of the end of the church age, and the final week of Daniel, i.e. the Tribulation Period which is depicted in Luke 21 following our text. Some theologians believe the 1967 Six Day War in Israel marked the beginning of Israel’s occupation of Jerusalem after a long absence, and the beginning of the end of Israel being “trodden under” by the Gentiles. Especially consider this poignant passage from Luke 21:35-36 which encourages the believer to be discerning, and implies that the Lord will deliver the believer through the rapture of the church from the wrath to come: “For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” How can a believer escape you ask? The Lord will remove the body of Christ. See I Thessalonians 4:13-18.
