Have You Lost Your Mind?

If our thought patterns are congruent with the ideas of the world, we will be very distant in our relationship with God. The world’s very appealing sensual desires (vanity fair) are ever knocking at our door step—-materialism, lustful inordinate affection, selfishness, success, money, prestige, and on and on the list goes. We are AUTOMATICALLY drawn to them unless we turn to God. The best cures for worldly entrapments are to pray, read God’s Word and fellowship with the saints. You see, the battle is for the mind—-it is the mind that is the seat of our soul, thoughts and emotions. Whatever controls our mind determines our actions and words. Romans 12:2 says: “And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” A parallel passage is located in Ephesians 4:22-24: “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Evil thoughts, words and deeds can be kept in check as we submit to the Holy Spirit and align our thinking with the following six points from Philippians 4:8 — “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy- think on these things.” God’s perfect desire for the believer is to “render every thought captive.” Absolutely everything we do, everything we say, the plans we make, and the places we go, the people we associate with, and how we spend all of our time throughout our lives, is totally dependent upon our thoughts. Our thoughts are always submissive to whatever controls our hearts! If we daily “crucify the flesh and put on the full armor of God,” we will continually follow the Lord and not Satan.  Pastor Steve
