Will there be signs of Christ’s coming for His bride? Yes indeed, but the signs point more towards the 7 year Tribulation Period following His return for His church. Many people believe there are several signs lining up in our generation for this great time of tribulation. It is interesting that there are absolutely no signs for the rapture of the church itself. The Gentiles of the church age (Romans 11) are the “wild vine” temporarily grafted in until the Lord takes His bride home. Then the Lord will once again commence His prophetic time clock with His natural vine, the nation of Israel. The Lord ALWAYS deals with Israel in times and dates, and He has already finished 69 of the 70 weeks of Daniel (Daniel 9:24-27) with His chosen people. He has one week left, which is actually 7 years, called Jacob’s Trouble by the prophet Jeremiah, and also known as the Day Of The Lord or The Great Tribulation. There are many, many signs we can observe that are paving the way for this dreadful time that will occur after the rapture of the church. Hence the more plainly we see the events unfolding and the table being set for the Tribulation Period, how close must Christ’s Coming for His church be? A verse that tells Christians that we will be able to observe the Lord setting things up for the end of the church age is the following—– Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: AND SO MUCH THE MORE, AS YE SEE THE DAY APPROACHING.” (capitals mine) Yes, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit will give us discernment to observe events coming into play which indicate we are approaching the end of the church age. In the next study (Eschatology, Part 7) we will examine many signs that indicate Christ’s Coming could be very soon. Let me mention one very obvious sign at this time—–that of apostasy. The way our Lord works, by default, there MUST be a great falling away at the threshold of His Coming. Consider the Flood of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah and The Fall of Jericho. Great apostasy occurred prior to all of these judgments and it will be the same before the Day of the Lord. There are A LOT of scriptures in the New Testament that tell us about the great falling away such as II Timothy chapter 3, several passages in I and II Thessalonians, and the entire book of Jude to name a few. There are many, many more scriptures in addition to these. We must remember that apostasy can ONLY happen in the church and has nothing to do with the world because they are already lost. The two articles on the emerging church elsewhere in this blog also deal with the apostasy in the church. It is an entire study in itself, with an endless number of scriptures and related books on the subject. In closing, suffice it to say, we are living in apostasy. What could be plainer? Apostasy is a prominent sign of His return. Pastor Steve
Note: Just because the Lord is “setting the table” for His coming does not necessarily mean that He is coming extremely soon! It simply means that events have fallen into place that will allow prophecy to be fulfilled. The Lord, of course, will keep everything on a holding pattern in accordance with His perfect will, which is way beyond you and me. Our command from the Lord is to live in the light of His soon return.
