Eschatology 22, Replacement Theology (Last entry in this series was June 21, 2011)

Replacement theology is simply the mindset that the Lord is entirely finished with the nation of Israel, and that this country is totally inconsequential in reference to endtimes prophetical events. In other words, the Christian Church has REPLACED the nation of Israel in the order of events during the remainder of the church age. Well, you ask, is this true? The answer is “No way Jose.” It is a hermeneutical law and Biblical truth that God ALWAYS deals with Israel in reference to time. They spent 40 years in the wilderness (the number of testing). Daniel 9:24-27 is a profound passage that covers 490 years of Israel’s history, commencing with the return of the Israelites from captivity in Babylon and leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and stopping precisely on Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday 483 of these 490 years were completed, hence we have 7 years of this aforementioned time period yet to be completed. These 7 years that lie ahead are known as the Great Tribulation Period or Jacob’s Trouble. They will commence at the end of the church age, and after God takes His bride (the church) home and protects us from the unprecedented pouring out of His unmerciful wrath on a Christ rejecting world. But before this happens the church age must be completed, and that will happen when the last soul is saved, thus completing His perfect body of believers. The length of the church age however, unlike God’s dealings with Israel, cannot be determined. The most beautiful and comprehensive chapter in the entire Word of God that deals in specific with this topic is Romans 11. Remember that there are 3 successive chapters in Romans that deal with Israel’s history and they are:
Romans 9 Israel past
Romans 10 Israel present
Romans 11 Israel future
Romans 11 tells us that the Gentile Church (that is referring to Christians living right now in the church age) is the wild vine that is temporarily grafted into fellowship with God because of Israel’s initial rejection. The wild vine is today’s church. The original vine Israel has been cast out but NOT permanently. At a time only known by God Himself, He will finish the church age and take the spiritual blinders off of the nation of Israel and they will finally understand that they crucified their Messiah 2,000 years ago. Although Israel is indeed a nation now, they are a political entity and still lack spiritual understanding. Read Romans 11:1A “I say then, Hath God cast away His people? God forbid..” Verse 7 tells us that “the elect obtained truth and the rest were blinded.” Paul refers to their slumber, blindness, stumbling block, snare and trap. The Gentiles have received truth in order to provoke Israel’s jealousy. Now here is the kicker in verse 25B and it is exciting: “….that blindness in part is happened to Israel, UNTIL the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.” Wow! When God completes the church age, He will then finish His work with His prophetic time piece, the nation of Israel. Do you see how unbiblical and apostate it is, for one to suggest that the church has replaced the nation of Israel? As always, the Bible alone says it best.
Because of Him, Pastor Steve
